Default Tilt column release handle

I just pulled the handle to lower the column on my 2003 Vette and it snapped off at the base! Looks like a complicated repair, any insight and/or advice?

Thx
Jerry

Is it definitely broken or did it just pull out? When I was replacing my SWPS I had to remove parts of the interior and I found that you could literally just pull the tilt handle and it would come straight out. Theres supposed to be a little clip that you have to press to release it, but mine didn't need it.

There's a link with a little info, and some sup-par photos explaining how to get it out if its actually broken off. It's just a little rectangular hole that it slips into.

David,
It snapped off at the base, I found a NOS handle online, $24. Those photos should guide me, or a much younger helper, installing the new one.
Thx

Good luck! I don't think It should be too hard to get you taken care of. If you have to pull the plastic column cover off there are a ton of writeups that can get you through that, and a youtube video on replacing the steering wheel position sensor (obviously you won't have to replace that, but it will get you to the point of removing the plastic shroud)

The new handle was delivered today. When removing the stub of the old one, I bent back the clip on the right. It apparently holds in place a small rivet, which fits into a grove on the handle shaft that goes into the recess. Like many others I've spoken with experienced, the rivet popped out, landing somewhere in the steering column cover. The stub then came out easily. I pushed in the new handle, it seems snug. I may epoxy it if it comes loose.

NOS handle, $24, from: www.smcperformance.com

Thx!
Jerry
