OK, so not a C5 but a C6, but you get the idea. I am pretty sure these are dummy pipes as there is a similar C6 locally with the same ones and they are in fact dummy pipes.

Side pipes on a C5 would be an interesting thing to see, but with the car sitting so low and having such a flat underside, I don't see how it could work.

I know there's no way I could/would do side pipes on mine.
And about those two pics... the side pipes look more like the nerf bars you see on a truck or SUV... to me at least.

I prefer the headers-to-side-pipe look:
The blue on above it the one my friend got seriously burned with.
Just to wide for an easy entry/exit to the vehicle.
Like any exhaust, they are very,very hot.
If you wanted to drive your C-5, equipped with side pipes, since most states require catalytic converters and mufflers, IMHO it would be just about impossible to fit a side exit system............BUT, I think it would look cool!!
Considering the forward location of the C5 catalytic converters I don't think side pipes would be an issue except for the ground clearance. With the mufflers up front it would sound so much better than having them after the rear axle. Old school exhaust tone the closer to the manifolds/headers the bettes.That's the only reason I haven't swapped my mufflers because IMO mufflers installed towards the rear sound terrible. Thats something that I learned 40 years ago.

Without making MAJOR modifications to the underside of the car, only the front and rear fenders are really options.
I've seen side exits in front and behind the front wheels and behind the rear wheels.
The only way to do this is like the C5R. Run them down the frame rail and cover it with body work.
The car sits too low and putting them on the side you would burn a leg getting out every time. That is why they would need covered. Vipers did similar.
Some things had their era and side pipes are over for C5 and later.
Also anyone who has had side pipes normally gets over them fast. Burns are common and in this cars case they would have to be covered like a Viper or C5R so then what is the point. This is more a C2-3 thing. Different car and different era.
