C5 Side pipes?
Has anyone heard of, or seen, or tried to put side pipes like on a C5 similar to the '69 C3? Very interested. That is one of my favorite features of the '69.

So this question comes up pretty frequently. The attached thread is a sample however since PhotoBucket decided to stop 3rd party sharing the photos no longer show: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-exhaust.html
You could go this route (pun intended):
Or this:
I too am a fan of side pipes, but think they looked at home on a C3. I don't think they really fit into a street C5. But, only my opinion.

I love the side pipe look that came with the C2's and C3's. IMO they really complimented the look, just cool as hell. On C5's, the idea is interesting but I just don't see how it could work. In the meantime I guess its . Have a good one!

Side pipes on a C5 would be an interesting thing to see, but with the car sitting so low and having such a flat underside, I don't see how it could work.

I like the side pipes on older cars but not sure how it would look on a modern vehicle. Only way I could see it looking integrated is to not have them exposed like the C3's. But instead to be like some of the last gen mustang saleens and built into the rockers

Did a little looking after i posted.. Yes I saw a few threads about it and some mock-ups on the internet. Took a look at the under carriage and I'm just not seeing a way to do it with out heavy mod to the body structure. Could possibly make custom headers that turn out just forward of the firewall but it would be tight. You could run the tucked up under the door sill and exit just on front of the rear wheels around where the Z06 cooling ducts are located. The car is too low to run them like the C3's. Heavy mod to structure would be required to pull it off. I did like the pics above exiting right behind the front tire but that would be LOUD for a everyday driver LOL.
Well I guess if I want side pipes I'll just have to go buy me a '69

If you wanted to drive your C-5, equipped with side pipes, since most states require catalytic converters and mufflers, IMHO it would be just about impossible to fit a side exit system............BUT, I think it would look cool!!

love them on the classics, not sure it would look right on C5...or even work on a C5 for that matter..

My FIL put sidepipes on his Mitsubishi Eclipse vert, so I guess anything is possible. Honestly I don't see it working with the C5 tho...

If you wanted side pipes you would have to have custom headers and bring the pipe out not too far from where the lowest of those 4 pipes pop out, then alongside the rocker panel. Then of course burn yourself on every entry and exit from the car.....no cats anywhere tho', so "road legal" would be difficult in most states.

Side pipes belong on the C3 period, would never work on C5.
Having said that, yesterday I saw an 80's something Buick with chrome cheesy 'aftermarket' Vette pipes (ending at the door), plus chrome ' centreline' look a likes. Very cool!
