If you ever get a PO101H code (MAF) performance warning, you may want to check your air filter, even if it is new. Several months ago, I researched stock air filters for my ’04. I was impressed with the WIX filtering stats compared to many others in the study. So wanting the best for the car, I order one and installed. Several weeks later, my check engine light came on after a very spirited acceleration with code PO101H. Never happened before. So having never cleaned the MAF for the almost 3 years of ownership, I did (it did not appear dirty). It was interesting to find the clamps holding the air induction were very loose. I cleaned the MAF and tightened the clamps. I deleted the code and all was good until my next spirited acceleration. The check engine light came back on with the same code. Doing some anecdotal analysis, I replace the WIX with my previous brand, FRAM. After 5 spirited accelerations over the next 2 weeks, no more code. So my conclusion, maybe the air filters can do too good of a job thus adversely restricting the air flow. Thoughts?
I doubt if it was the Wix air filter being too restrictive. My opinion.
Could be just a poor connection someplace.
Today I decided to do the switch again and put in the WIX filer. Went for a several spirited accelerations and the third one the check engine light came on again. But put back in the Fram and went for that drive and no check engine light. Just maybe it is an anomaly with my air flow. My message, check your air filter if you get the code PO101.
