Default Key fob repair.

For a while now, i needed to press the buttons repeatedly to get them to work.
Thought it was the battery.
Opened it up, and one side of the clamp that holds the battery had broken it's solder point.

I never soldered anything until I did the outside temp gauge light on the climate control a couple of months ago.
That went pretty easy.

I got out my trusty solder iron yesterday, and fixed the fob where the battery clamp was loose, and now everything works with just one click.
If you are experiencing the same problem, it is an easy fix,as long as you have a steady hand.

I imagine if you do a sloppy soldering job, it would render the fob useless.

Bob.

that you were able to fix the fob yourself. Sure saved a lot of money.

I hate spending money if I can do the job myself.
That was evident with the climate control.
I felt I could solder the points to get that outside temp light to light(which I did), but I sent the unit out to have all the bulbs, and the two switches replaced.

You did a great job doing that repair Sir..

When I first got my '04 from Kerbeck in 2004 I bought 4 new GM fobs still in the plastic packages 2-#1s and 2-#2s...I took out the batteries so the wouldn't go bad and I still have all for just incase...a guy in snowflake Kalifornia SF Bghey area had them for $15 each......I think his forum name was "Sukie"...he was a youngin and moved on from the forum...

There is no difference in a #1 and #2 fob other than identifying different drivers for the seat, mirror, radio presets in the driver memory function. There is a big difference in the early and later C5 fobs - they are not interchangeable so you must get one appropriate for the year of your car.
