[Z06] 2004 z06 VSS sensor issue??

2004 z06 VSS sensor issue??
Replaced clutch, broke the wire connector to VSS speedometer sensor (?) replaced the connector. Went to test drive and car idles and revs perfect when not in motion, but when you put it in gear and go to drive the car it revs to 3000 rpms for about 5-10 secs. Everytime you put it in gear it does this. Disconnected the VSS wire and the car runs fine..... No speedometer though. I didn't drive it long enough but there are no codes. could it be the VSS sending unit? Any ideas??? I'd appreciate any help
