Trade '00 C5 for '05 C6???
Hi. I am going to post this in both the C5 and C6 sections.
I currently have a 2000 C5 green/black auto with 40k miles. I have had it a little over a year. I like the car but the C6 just seems like a much more modern car. I am thinking of trading it for a 2005 C6. The one I'm looking at is blue/cashmere 6spd with 47k miles.
Any thoughts or opinions either way would be appreciated. Thanks.

47K seems really high to me, but do what YOU want. You can get a nice C7 for that money.

I think you read my post incorrectly. The C6 I'm currently looking at has approximately 47,000 miles on the odometer. It is priced under $25,000.

Quite alright. Any opinions on either car or the possible swap?

I don't think the C6 is a modern car at all (neither is the C5). Both are great cars, but you are splitting hairs between two old not modern at all cars.
Personally I like the C5 better for looks. If you think an 05 C6 is going to perform better, you are right comparing stock to stock.. but its not going to be night and day... and simple bolt ons would close that Gap.... Even if you went full build its not going to be a huge difference.
At the end of the day its what you want ..but if you think an 05 C6 is a modern car, you might want to remind yourself its 2018 pretty soon... old is old lol

Well, if you want my honest opinion - I just can't get past the front headlights or the interior on the C6. Everything else is great, but for those 2 reasons, I would stay in a C5 until I can afford a C7.

Yeah...I was thinking about that. First year of production for any car is a potential problem. I guess I was hoping that many of those bugs/kinks would have been worked out over the last dozen years.

You are right in that both are old. The C6 just seems to have a few more things in common with modern cars.
The honest truth is that I get bored quickly. I'm looking for something different and using the updated looks and performance of the C6 to justify making a change.

The C6 guys will tell you to trade immediately. The C5 guys will tell you to keep your C5. Everybody believes what they have is best.
But, in my opinion, the car you describe is not enough of an upgrade to make that trade.
Horsepower, navigation, etc. can all be added to a C5 and you'd end up with a better car that what you describe.

You are right that C5 owners are championing C5s while C6 owners are championing C6s.
I guess I was hoping for some compelling fact, opinion or anecdote to be put forward. I, of course, will ultimately do what I think is best for me.

So.....your car and how much $ for the 05?
Personally, I wouldn't trade my 02 for an 05 straight up.

If you are going to trade, I personally would look at an 08 or up. The LS3 is a much better platform than the LS-2.
The C6 will outperform any C5 except the C5 Z06. With the C6 LS3 verses the C5 Z06, pretty much a toss up in the 1/4 and close with a C6 LS3 Z51 on the track.
However, the C5 Z06 has a definite weight advantage, although 30 HP down.

Probably $8k or so.
Is it fiscally advantageous for me? No.
Is it the reality of the situation. Yes.
The good news is that I'm not really into drugs or ******...anymore. Cars are how I choose to spend my disposable income. And cars....at least the ones I like...ain't cheap.

Ultimately you need to do what makes you happy. The non wide body C6s do nothing for me looks wise. I do like the wide body of the grand sport and Z06 though.

That's one gorgeous torch red you have there...is it a hatchback or an FRC?

The OP says he's tired of his C5, and I can understand that because I just went through the same thing with a motorcycle...it was a Triumph Rocket III, the biggest displacement production bike made (2300cc), but I just got sick of it and wanted something different. Once that happens, there's nothing you can do to make yourself passionate about that vehicle anymore, and a change is inevitable, but like some of the others have said, I've also heard the '05 C6 should be avoided.....

I'd focus my upgrade on better quality hookers and drugs, and keep the C5.
Seriously though...I'd look at several C6's and get the one that speaks to you.
If one doesn't demand your ownership, keep the C5.

Safety Car
I would do that deal.
I like the styling of both the C5 and the C6 but I give the edge to the C6. If you don't loose much on the deal, I say go for it.
Another nice thing is the 2005 C6 has the LS2 if I am not mistaken. That's 400 HP and 400 TQ from a 6.0 L versus the LS1's 350 HP/TQ.
And the LS2 has the 243 casting heads of the LS6 (I think the valves are different on the LS6 243's however).
