I think most people use a 90 degree attachment on a drill and drill out the rivets, however, when I did my DD install, I took some old towels and stuffed them up under the dash (to catch any sparks or metal) and then I used a dremel tool with a cutting blade to grind the rivets off. Didn't take very long at all. Be sure to use ear and eye protection if you do it this way.

I used a sawzall..... seriously... blade right between the bracket and the side wall whereit is attached. It keeps the blade from moving around and goes right through the rivits leaving a smooth cut on the side. It looked terrifying to stick a sawzall in my dash (to my wife) but it was really easy, and with everything already out of the way I wasn't going to accidentally hit anything anyway. Sticking some sort of towel in there is a good idea. It catches all of the shavings and covers anything from accidentally getting nicked. Used a finer, metal blade and it took all of 5 minutes to get it out of there.
