2004 vert. got PO442 code. gas cap I believe. code won't reset in the dic and check engine light is still on. suggestions??

I had a the same code several days after filling with gas. After the forum suggest it may be just the cap, I removed and cleaned the cap and put some silicone spray on the seal. I have not had the code return for over 2 years.
