We just bought a C5. Are there issue we should look for or things to avoid?

It will be my wife's daily Driver.

2001, Auto. 74,000 miles.

Common things to look out for:

Blinkers not working. Replace hazard switch or install hyperflash harness.
A variety of other electrical gremlins which I'm sure can be found in one of the stickies above.

So far blinkers are fine. Have an ABS light on and traction control. Will get that checked out next week. Has the wrong size tires in rear, but other than these items it runs out great.

If the harmonic balancer is original, plan on replacing it. Be alert for any wobbling.

Read the sticky in the tech section.. it's a great resource.. most of the stuff that goes on these cars is more annoying than anything. The good thing is there is tons of support from the aftermarket and fellow owners. There is also tons of good used parts available. These cars are far from perfect, but are a blast to drive.

If the tire sizes are wrong, that will trigger the traction control light. The rears need to be 1.00 larger than the fronts if memory hasn't failed me.

I was very lucky when buying mine last March as both PO's had all service receipts so I could see all that was done to the car since bought in 03 till me getting it with 109,325 on the clock. I had to change out a leaking high pressure power steering hose. The traction/abs/active handling started lighting up but does it less and less in the 4000 plus miles I've put on it since the 29th of March this year.
The Auto Climate control does not light up so will take that apart when the weather cools and see if I can fix that.
Other than that, just drive that puppy. Deal with issues as they arrive.

This question might have been better asked before the car was purhased. No avoiding any issues you find now......

Nice car. Congrats. Leaky rear ends are very common.

Good luck with your new baby! C5's are fun cars and you have the right top to really enjoy some open air cruising! Read the stickies at the top of the page for a ton of valuable information for the new or aspiring C5 owner. Best wishes!

Doh! That can be an expensive fix. Hopefully it's just your rear tire size you mention. Out of curiosity, what is your rear tire size?

Things to watch out for?

Anything in the street over 3" high.

Remember: If you can't fit it in your mouth, you can't drive over it.
