From what I have seen and heard about Irma, a garage isn't going to help much, unless it is a cement one.
Best to take it northwest if you have the time.

I agree with the above, get the heck as far away from the storm as possible. Good luck and stay safe.

Northwest as in Jacksonville, Atlanta or up to South Carolina or North Carolina? Still not safe or far enough.
A better idea might be "any near" airport parking garage. In South Florida, its the parking of choice.

Jack, now....most ways out of South Florida are clogged and are short or out of gas. Evac. started at 7:00pm yesterday and in Dade and Broward county at 7:00 am this morning.. (only two ways to get out of S. Florida...I95 & I75.)(bus and airlines are over booked now with the airlines charging over $1000.)
Good luck everyone.

A parking garage is your best bet. No storm will collapse a parking garage. Get your car on the third floor and it will be fine.

Storm is scary for sure, especially after seeing what happened to Texas. Please be safe and get out if you can.

Large chain hotels like Sheraton will let you park your car for a few days. Just rent a room for a day and you can leave your car longer there.

There was a scrolling message on the Weather Channel that parking garages were being opened up to people for vehicle storage in Florida, I also think it said Airports as well were allowing parking.

I would look for an underground garage and hope it does not flood! If those winds hit what they are projecting, they can shoot straws through telephone poles!
