I have noticed a big rust spot about the size of an orange shop rag on the bottom of the floor visible from underneath the car, about where the battery tray is located. I know probably that before I got it the battery had leaked sometime. The question is what is going to be the best fix for this? thanks for any advice..
If it's in the passenger fender area it could be Dex-Cool leaking onto the ground. The fill/expansion tank sits on top of the inner fender and the tank (along with the washer fluid tank) commonly cracks.
IF,,,,,,,,,,, It is actual battery acid damage, I highly recommend that you remove the main wiring harness coverings and inspect and neutralize the acid on the wiring.
In one of the harnesses will be a very small NYLON VACUUM LINE. That line connects the manifold vacuum connection to the HVAC vacuum line through the main vacuum reservoir. Acid will destroy that nylon vacuum line.
If AIR comes out of multiple vent locations at the same time, that vacuum source is not working!
