Default Where can Jack Stands touch?

Hey Guys,

Sorry for the noob question - but where do you put Jack Stands so they don't damage the C5? I have a 3 ton jack and I use two hockey pucks - but I was about to buy jack stands but I just don't know where in the front and rear they should be placed to avoid damage.

If you could post a picture of the front and rear placement, that would be super helpful and much appreciated.

Also - if you have any tips or instructions for proper usage and safety, I'm all ears!

Thanks!

I don't use the pucks anymore because they're really not necessary unless the car is on a lift. I lift at the rear first directly in the center at the cradle and place stands on each side of the rear cradle (there's a nice Y notch area that holds stands well). Then lift each side up front placing a stand on each side (4 stands total). With that method I can get the car in the air in about five minutes.

It's all pretty obvious once you get the rear jacked up.

FYI.....I don't think you are suppose to jack the car from the center of the cradle. From what I've been told and read, it's not strong enough to support the car and could crack over time.

You might think about putting a 2x6 across the rear cradle to equal the weight distribution. Then jack it up

That's why you put something in between it and the jack.

I bought the cross member brace from harbor freight. It's about the perfect size for the C5 and wasn't very expensive. I think it's like $30 or $40 and I used a 25% off coupon.

Agreed.

But since you didn't say that, I was just trying to help out. I don't want to see someone with a cracked rear cradle because they thought they could just jack it from the middle.
