Looking to upgrade
I had the pleasure to be part of a Corvette caravan today and after seeing the many different cars that showed up, I am contemplating on a C7. Yeah I know, its a hell of a jump, but these cars were breathtaking. Maybe once I look at my wallet, my mind will come back. Maybe.
That's my silver C5 next the green vette

Usually a spreadsheet of costs gets my ardor in check, or a good nights sleep!
My C5 has been very impressive in performance, economy, comfort and lack of problems!
I'm not paranoid, but big brother isn't watching my every move via SatLink, either.

Rob, thanks for sharing the photos. Have to say, I think your C5 looks just fine in the crowd of other Vettes, but new is always appealing, too. Let us know what you do.

I'm with one of the posters above regarding. Like most of us I get excited at the prospect of a new automotive experience, but I usually end up comparing my current paid for toy against spending for a new toy what would buy a decent house or a nice piece of land in a good part of our great country. Well, at that point I just go out to the garage and give the C5 a nice cleaning and leave the dream behind, for awhile anyway! Best wishes in whatever direction you should go!

Really not a fan of the C7. If i were to upgrade, and stay with a Corvette, I'd look at a C6 or wait for the C8. To each their own.

This question would be better suited to ask the C7 folks that have gone from a C5 to C7 in the C7 section, the opinions here will be vastly different and more pro-C5. Nothing wrong with that, as I'm a staunch diehard of the C5 platform as many others are.
I guess I'm fortunate that I happen to be in the employ of a company that delivers C7 Callaway Corvettes exclusively. I've gotten plenty of seat time in C7's before and after their transformation. I'm here to tell you in my opinion, that it is a fantastic car. I have nothing against the C7, it's beautiful in it's own way, and just a few seconds sitting in the interior and you know it's a better quality "feel". One of the biggest perks for me, is being able to deliver these cars from time to time to their new owners. Being a "Vette guy" I share in their joy of their new car arrival.
That being said....I don't feel an ounce of jealousy in not having the "newest" Vette out there. From Temecula, CA to Bowling Green, KY and Old Lyme, CT to the residence of the new owner. I know back in STL. MO I have a great C5 sitting in the garage that is paid for, styled to my tastes, and in great working order. Just things to keep in mind when you go searching for "upgrades". Personally, I have a whole different kind of love for my C5 nowadays, compared to when I bought it almost 14 years ago. Modding your C5 for upgrades will definitely give you a better appreciation of what you have in the garage already....Just my .02
Good luck with whatever you decide to do....

Safety Car
There has been rumors about a mid engine Vette since the 1980's. There has even been a few concept cars for the C5 era that were mid engine. There were a lot of threads last year about the 2018 mid engine Vette that didn't happen. 3-4 years would be a short run for the 7th generation especially when people are still interested in purchasing them.
I'm not doubting that it wont happen sometime though.

Tom, I really appreciate yours and the others words of wisdom. Your point is well taken, and you know as well as anyone that you would want the car you really can't have due to monetary hurdles. $78k is quite a bit of money when you come down to it. '
I am sure like friou , Route99 and the others, we all love our cars but that green Sting Ray in the first photo was just beautiful.
So anyway, taking my "Silver" up to 120mph on that runway was a blast as well as being part of that special group of people that all have a passion for the Corvette. I am just gunna have to jump in for a ride today, that should do it.

I bought this C7 Z06 new last year. 7 Speed manual. It's a a hell of a car and stupid fast. Still love driving the C5. The new cars are so darn complex, I'm only scratching the surface of all the gadgets they put in it. The simplicity and looks of the C5 never get old. As great as the C7 Z is, I will never be convinced it's that many times better that you can justify the price difference.

Just moved up from the 50th Anniversary Edition to the 60th Anniversary Edition, from a technology and performance standpoint it was a great move. Styling wise not so much.
Just my 2 pennies.

I too get the itch every now and then to make the jump to a new Vette. No doubt the C7 is a beautiful car with technology and performance to match. But my C5 has been rock solid for the 8 years I have owned it, it's paid for, and still puts a smile on my face when I drive it. Plus it still turns heads going down the road.
It is a difficult decision to spend that much money on a vehicle - perhaps in a few years when the prices really start to come down I'll pick up a gently used C7, just like I did with my C5.

I would always want a convertible, where I live we only have 6-7 month season.
If money was no object I would upgrade in a heart beat. But that is not my reality.

Last June I trade in my 04 for a 17 GS. When I got the green light to get 17 the hardest part of doing the deal was trading my 04 in it was my first Corvette and loved driving, detailing and just staring at car knowing it was mine. Having a Corvette was a dream I had sense I was little,( like many Corvette owners ). I do miss my 04 but the 17 GS is a different car. The ride, power, handling, and all the gadgets. Like what was said above I also have only learned a small amount of all the things that you can do with a lot of the options. The look of a C7 gets your attention but if you take one for a drive It sucks you in and you won't want to let go! That is what happened to me! Enjoy your Corvette. Dave
