My ABS and Traction Control warning lights came on. Dealer said I need a Steering Angle Sensor, which is an obsolete part they cannot get. I have searched the Corvette parts companies and do not find any. Do they go by another name? Is this a needed part? Where can one be found? Thanks!FRED
The SWPS (steering wheel positioning sensor) are still available for the '01 and newer models. The '97-2000 are only available used if you can find one. Try vettenuts. They are a corvette recycle place that still might have some. Good luck.
In addition to the 1997-2000 SWPS sensors being discontinued, 1997-1998 sensors are slightly different from 1999-2000 sensors. 2001-2004 all have one style which is still made.
Recently in the EBCM swap thread that is now a Tech section sticky, the OP showed how to re-pin a pre-2001 car to utilize the later 2001-2004 style. I believe that you would have to perform this entire swap for this to work correctly as the earlier SWPS utilizes an analog signal where as the 2001-2004 does not, but someone in the tech know-how could probably correct me (I'd imagine if it were as simple as re-pinning every pre 2001 owner would be re-pinning......)
