Default Magnesium wheels: earliest production date code

I have a single mag wheel with a sticker reading "Experimental part. Not for production use." The date code is '97, though I'm not sure how to decipher the month.

I know the mag wheel options was not available until 1998. Does anyone have a mag wheel with a '97 date code?

They did make that wheel for 98 and most likely they where produced in 97. I do know you could not order a 98 with that wheel, they were only for export. In the early years they had problems with it so they only exported them. Possible they could not pass DOT standards. My 98 was produced in December 97.

There are a bunch of felt tip markings on the wheel including this note pasted to it.

All my other mag wheels have productions date after 1998.

I have four magnesium wheels on sale in the parts section if anyone is interested. (The other three are not like this; just good used wheels.)

Are you sure? The Corvette books lists something like a thousand Corvettes having the magnesium wheel option in '98.
