Mine was with my Aunt-inlaw in 1977 who, when I was just 19 on summer break from A&M let me drive her 1961 Roman Red 283 3-speed around Grosse Ile MI. I was bit, not only by that incredible summer drive but also later by my Auntie. What was I thinking? Only my one eyed Ranger could tell you.
A few years later after joining the Army, I bought my first Corvette. A 1975 dark red L82 with a “munchie” 4-speed that was a joy to drive until the night that I was on my way to a date with a hot Navy Nurse in Pearl Harbor. It started to rain as I left Waialua and at a right hand bend in the road, I lost it and speared a telephone poll. I’ll never forget that car. RIP
What’s your first experience with your first Corvette? Please share. I’m sure there’s more interesting stories to be told.

My parents were buying a Chevy Astro (of all things) back in 2001 when I was 14. The dealer had black coupe, a red vert and a yellow Z06 all in the show room. The ONLY things in the show room. That was all she wrote for me! The whole time they were doing their paper work I went from one to the next just staring.
1963. Dad was looking at a Chevy II Wagon with Mom and they couldn't find me. At the ripe old age of 7 I had found the split window and was sitting in it! (Or so I've been told for many years!)
Back on my 18th birthday I was at the strip club with a few friends. One of the strippers had gotten off early and came over to sit with us and have drinks for the rest of the night. I wasn't drinking because I was still underage, but as we went to leave she told me she was too drunk to drive and asked if I would drive her car to a house party.
She handed me some Chevy keys and I figured it was to a blazer or a cavalier or something, but it turned out to be a yellow 2001 z06. We went out and had so much fun we burned through a half tank of gas before we got to the party. I ended up doing a huge burnout in the steak-n-shake parking lot.
Ended up being one of the craziest nights of my life, my wife (who was in the group of friends at the strip club at the time, but we weren't together then) still brings it up sometimes that I bailed on the group, but who cares, it was my 18th birthday and I was single.
After that night I swore I would sell my 350z and buy a z06.
I guess a 68 silver convertible. One of 3 most memorable cars . Other 2 were 67 xke coupe and first 6 series BMW at ny auto show . Oh , and a yellow 275 gtb
My first experience with a Corvette was in 1969. I was going to school and working at the Coal Mines on 2nd shift. I was going to work one afternoon, at a small Chevrolet dealer in Pinckneyville, IL there was a 1963 Corvette Roadster sitting on their used car lot.
I did not have time to stop and look at it that day. The next day I was able to go and check it out. The car had been treated pretty rough. The body was cracked up and broken. The front bumper was missing, but the interior was in great shape.
They wanted $900.00 dollars for the car. I offered them $800.00 and they accepted the offer. This started me on my Corvette affliction. I did rebuild the engine and fixed the the body.
I just wish I could have kept the car, but I got drafted into the U.S. Army after finishing school and had to sell the car in 1971.
I was waiting in the light to change with my dad when a camaro z28 and a corvette c4 started to race, that short cinema action sticked into my head till this day, my desire for a corvette started to grow on me since that day, I was 14 years old ............ the corvette won by the way.
My cousin had just got out of the service and he drove his new 65 Marlboro Maroon 327/365 horse Coupe down to Miami. He took me for a ride, and I was hooked the minute the side pipes started singing. As an 11 year old gearhead, I knew then what my goal was. I bought a red 73 Coupe when I was 19. Have had at least one most of the time since.

At age 21 I bought a 1968 silver vert 327/350. I found a removable hardtop for $200 a month later. I would have kept it longer than a few years if it had A/C.
In 1953 (I was 8 years old) a doctor on my paper route won a (one of 300) Corvette. He parked it in front of his house and every morning I saw it as I delivered his paper. He gave me a ride in it once or twice, and I was hooked. A couple of years later, I had saved enough money to buy a new bicycle and Schwinn was producing the famous Schwinn Corvette. If I remember correctly it cost me $87. It was red with white trim, had a three speed and was the closest thing I was going get to a real Corvette until after I was married. In 1969 we bought our first real Corvette, a 1964 two top vert, Daytona blue, with white interior. Since then I've not ever been without one for long. (I'm now 72 YO). Currently I have a 2001 Triple black Vert with about 35,000 miles and a 2014 Night race blue sting ray with about 30,000 miles. The most valuable one I wish I still had was a 1965 327 365 HP air conditioned coupe (Nassau blue, black interior).
My first encounter was a movie "Billy Jack" there was a Convertable Corvette in the movie. Man I was Hooked line and sinker since then. Never had a chance since life of more importance takes place like kids and family and such. With all that happening the money was not all that free to spend on car as such. Mini van was the preferred vehicle of choice at that time. Beside I had actually have not even think about it any more, yes I have seen many many Vettes passed by in my life all this time, but again kept that longing in check till last year, my Dad passed away and for whatever reason I don't really know what click but I told myself that I am going to get me a Vette and enjoy it while I am still able and have a chance. Well the story goes like planned I guess. I have gotten me a Vette last year after a couple of months of searching and lots of disappointment like many others that have search for that dream Vette, but at last I have found one. Even it is a second hand Vette but it is great condition and I love tooling around it add lots of TLC and accessory. So I guess my dream finally came true.
Sorry for the long soap box version of my experience.
Around 1964 my brother bought a '53 for $500 and spent $400 on paint etc. It was a beast to drive as someone had put a manual trans in it and of course no p/s. The clutch pedal was low so I had to push it with my heel.
Senior year in high school in San Diego and one of the rich kids shows up with a brand new '67 427 tripower, 4 spd, side pipes, alloys, black/black. As I recall I was driving a '55 Ford Ranch Wagon POS. He was good enough to give me a couple of rides, hooked ever since. To his credit I never saw him beat that car. I ran into him a few years later right before I got drafted and that black '67 still looked perfect. Gotta give him credit, most of the rich kids who got those toys from dad and mom beat them into junk very quickly. Have a good one!
