In spring of 2000 I did my first ever clutch job on gf's (at the time) 1985 Toyota Corolla RWD 5 speed, in the garage.
I borrowed a old fashion transmission jack from work which was a coworkers and it was very easy to use and was stable, unlike a hunk of junk adapter you put on a floor jack I got at harbor freight tools that would fall over, or rock around on the jack.
Tried to buy the old transmission jack from the guy and he refused saying it was a relic.
If I remember right, it had no hydraulic ram, just wheels you turned to raise or lower and could tilt any direction, it made the clutch job very easy, can good ones be bought new anymore?
When I do my 1999 Corvette clutch down the road, I want something stable and easy to adjust.
Didn't that Corolla tranny weigh like 25 lb.s? I remember changing the clutch in my '73 Nova -- Saginaw 4-speed, tranny weighed ~110 lbs. Crushed a wrist watch when it hung on the parking brake cable. Then changed a Corolla wagon clutch. Pulling the tranny back and waiting for the weight to shift so I would know it was out far enough. Kept pulling and pulling. Finally reach up and around the attached bell housing, and the input shaft was a couple of inches out of the clutch!
You didn't state if you were working on a lift or not. If on a lift, get one from Fleabay for $150 shipped. Min 30", 2 stage up to 72". Tilts, swivels, everything you want. Assembly required. Works great. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1100lbs-Tra....c100005.m1851
I was just looking...they offer two styles of atv/motorcycle lifts/jacks. I'm going to assume it was this style that you used... https://www.harborfreight.com/1500-l...ift-61632.html How did you secure the trans to it while lifting/lowering it?

Hi, BTW I sold my CCW's and now I'm regretting it. Seller's remorse.

To add to this reply...I don't have access to a lift so will be doing it in my garage with the Vette on jack stands.

I used a racheting tie down strap to loop around the trans and under the two bars on the jack that touch it. Had someone pull it backwards out of the bellhousing while I grabbed the torque tube and put it on a jackstand
