I just liberated the fob from my parent's 2003 ( I think) Olds Alero, which was sold a while back. My question: Can this fob be reprogrammed to my 2002 Z06?
Yes you should be able to do that. The remotes for the 2001 - 2004 C5 were the same as for the following GM Vehicles:
• Cadillac Deville (2001-2005)
• Buick LeSabre (2001-2005)
• Chevrolet Astro (2002-2005)
• Chevrolet Blazer (2001-2005)
• Chevrolet Corvette (2001-2004)
• Chevrolet Impala (2001-2005)
• Chevrolet Malibu (2001-2004)
• Chevrolet Malibu Classic (2005-2006)
• Chevrolet Monte Carlo (2001-2005)
• GMC Jimmy (2001-2005)
• GMC Safari (2001-2005)
• Oldsmobile Alero (2001-2004)
• Oldsmobile Aurora (2001-2003)
• Pontiac Bonneville (2001-2005)
• Pontiac Grand AM (2001-2005)
• Pontiac Grand Prix (2004)
Many thanks there 8VETTE7. I kinda figured you would have the answer!
I only got 1 key and key fob remote with my car so I bought 2 additional fobs and keys on ebay. I have somewhere around $50 wrapped up in the purchase and my local locksmith cut the keys for free. It's nice to have the extras just in case. There were easy to program, also!
My '99 FRC came with two fobs and one key. Local locksmith made me a duplicate passkey. I then replaced both batteries in the fobs #2450 - Lord only knows how old or weak they were. I then resynced both fobs - following the full instruction copied below from other threads;
1. Turn ignition on, engine off.
2. Turn radio off.
3. Press DIC RESET button.
4. Press OPTIONS until display is blank.
5. Press and hold RESET for 3 seconds.
6. Press OPTIONS until FOB TRAINING displayed.
7. Press RESET to begin programming sequence.
8. Simultaneously press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on fob for 13-16 seconds. Message will appear on DIC when remote is
programmed.
9. Turn ignition off and remove key.
10. Test remote.
The question I have about using a non Corvette fob with our C5 models is what about the passive lock function - which I tend to also keep off.

My 93 had the PKE. It was a real pain, especially while walking around the garage with the key in my pocket or while working on the car. Lock unlock, lock unlock, lock unlock, ad nauseum. Most of the time I just threw the key in the car until I was done. It finally quit working most of the time. I didn't try to fix it. Good move to discontinue that option in my opinion.
So can the 2000 trans am fobs work on a 2k C5? I have 5 spare ones from the TA and only one for my C5.
Don't know but it only takes about two minutes to find out. I'd give it a shot, although it looks like if it does only two of the fobs will program if it does indeed work.
I'm thinking it would work as Trans Ams are a Firebird option package more or less. The years are right. Bravo 29, could you keep us posted if it works or not?
