ok-- I put my c5 down for a while focusing on my '67 c2 and a track hawk I just picked up, getting the itch to re-start working on the stereo in my c5.
I started work on it a few years ago- installed a double DIN pioneer head unit (which I used about once and it's completely outdated now.. go figure) , didn't touch the speakers or add an amp. I want to start up where I left off, replace the speakers, add an amp and a subwoofer. Not looking for earth-shattering performance, just better quality, and more depth.
where can I start diving in to plan out my build? any guides/anyone have any thoughts?
I made my own box that hides under the cover in the cubby in the back, shoe horned 8" 3 way woofers in the doors and hid the 5 channel under the passenger seat. No one can tell I did anything until I turn the volume up.
I did a audio install last winter. Turned into quite the project. A case of "since your are there..."
Since I had most of the interior out, I took everything out and Dynamat-ed the whole car. Upgraded the lighting to LEDs. Added heated seats. Oh yeah, added a Kenwood 9903 HU with C2 level JL Audio speakers, a sub and the JL RD900/5.
Probably could have done without the Dynamat. But since everything was out of the car for the audio install (including back up cameras), the extra couple of hundred dollars for the bulk packs made sense.
Oh yeah, if you go amp and sub you MUST do a Big 3 add too.
You can easily put 6x9s in the doors.
Just add some 3/4" long pieces of tube or pipe
to space them out so they clear the power windows.
Or cut down some speaker covers and use them on the backside
for the spacing.
The door panels will fit over this.
I mounted my amps on rubber isolator posts
