I was the bright eyed 24-year-old that couldn't wait to get his hands on a Z06, unfortunately I made some rookie mistakes that will end up costing me a few grand or more.. I found the perfect car in my opinion. It was red the color I wanted, it was already tuned, bolt ons, cam, new seats, and the interior was immaculate. I picked it up for 15k and was around 60,000 miles. Two months into ownership I started to notice a slight oil leak......I will never take my business to GM, but before I took it to my guy I wanted a quick inspection....Here is what they came up with( reference the picture)
The price is outrageous but thankfully I can afford this, still parting with 2 grand isn't easy. Learn from my mistakes

$437 for a water pump?
Rear axle seals are $37 for the pair not $77.
Every part on there is more than double what an ordinary guy can buy for.
The water pump is flat out retarded though. You can buy from several places GM for $175 or less.
If you're anywhere around Atlanta I know of a place that would treat you right.
They sell lemon cars and refuse to honor warranties. they've ripped off coworkers, neighbors, and family. DO NOT trust them.
High prices...high mileage
I brought my vehicle there to be repaired because it was a USAA approved facility. It was supposed to be done on 16 May but it is the 28th and it is still not done. USAA only provided a rental car for the 12 day estimated repair and it has been 30 so far. I own a Ford F150 and they couldn't even do the repair. They just subcontract to a Ford dealer (not USAA approved) to get the work done properly anyway. ~snip~ I DO NOT recommend this place if you are looking for good service.
I called to get a small, trivial part that I needed same day, parts people were rude and refused to match other dealership`s price.
I wouldn't recommend this car dealership to my worst enemy.

C5 of Year Winner (performance mods) 2019
is it really leaking from all of those places or is the dealership just trying to sell you every gasket because they can't find the source of the leak?... it sure would suck if you gave them 2 grand and it ended up being an oil pressure sending unit that was leaking

Slight oil leak? What year is the car - what area is the leak - are you sure it's oil - what color is the fluid - and 2 grand - tell them to FO - hell it could be the drain plug or the filter itself. It's at least 13 years old - old cars leak fluids - it's a fact - but it can also be a warning sign - so look into it and go from there - you can get a lot of help on here.
Just need to climb under there yourself with a few rags and a bottle of degreaser and find the leak. Sounds like they are guessing and throwing gaskets at it.
I don't understand what you are calling a "mistake."
You took it to this dealer for an estimate and to give you an idea of the problem... you didn't pay them yet, right?
A couple of leaks and things to fix, here and there, on a 15yr old car with 60k miles is normal. Even if you were to spend a couple grand to get it back to perfect... your still owning/driving a great car, in the color, condition, miles and mods you were looking for.
It's the cost of buying/owning a used car. Sure, it was unexpected, but in the end... take a deep breath, and it is all good.
After paying 15K for a Z with 60K miles on it, it would be hard to complain about much of anything unless the motor blew up. You stole it in the first place..........
I think he means, learn from his mistakes...he only gets an estimate from one place then writes a check.
I couldn't imagine having to depend on the world to fix and build my cars...I'd probably have taken up model railroading instead.
I didn't write a check, I wanted to see what Chevy thought before I brought it to my guy at colletti motorsports. I don't know enough about cars yet to the degree of you all, but I am learning

We all learned at some point. I was about your age when I started doing my own work on a car I raced a couple of times a month.
I wouldn't beat yourself up at all over what amounts to minor repairs on a car you got a good deal on. Would you have bought the same car, with same miles, mods, color for $17k? I'm guessing you would have.
Hey If I were to list al of the times I got hosed or did something stupid it would take a lot of paper! We all screw up at some time or another so don't make a big deal out of it just write the check and move on! At least that is what my wife says and she is pretty smart.
