Default Winter Storage

Just bought my 1st Corvette, C5 Convertible and am still smiling. Winter is coming and it's going to be out of site for a couple of months and I want to get a battery "minder".... confused as to what brand to get. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

"Battery Tender" is a popular brand. I have used mine for many years.

Thank you, I'll check it out...They have many models and sizes.... I don't want to overcharge or undercharge the unit.... and the prices are all over the board. I don't want to cut any corners and create problems down the road.

I have used a Battery Tender Plus from Deltran for the past 17 years and have had no problems. They work great at keeping the battery in top shape. (Note: that has been two tenders in those years - I gave one of them away when I sold my ‘00 in 2008 and bought another when I got my current car in 2009.)

Thanks.... as I have said, I don't want to cut any corners with this and create issues down the road. How large or are they one size fits all....

I have been using a CTEK 3300 since 2010, same version that GM has available for new Corvettes.

I have worried about this since I bought my car. After four years of reading lots of opinions I have decided to just disconnect the battery and let it sit.

The nice thing about the "Battery Tender" is that it is smart enough to properly charge and stop charging your battery.

Get the battery tender plus, I have two cars on them for over 12 years connected for 5 to 6 months with absolutely no problems.

I have used a HF $4.99 trickle charger on a Chevy Suburban that is hardly used, for almost 4 years, and even though it is a "dumb" trickle charger, it works just fine and has had no problems. A trickle charger that puts out 1.25A is never going to overcharge or fry your battery, so it you want to pay for "hype" with a fancy "smart" trickle charger or battery maintainer, feel free. I'd rather spend my money on something else worth the price. And like I keep saying on here, you can use one of those 120VAC-12VDC cubic shaped adapter things that you have lying around the house and it will accomplish the same thing, putting out 1-1.5 A.

Currently have a Battery Tender Plus and a couple of Jrs. for my cars.

Have been using Battery Tenders since I can remember. I have 3 Optima Blue Batteries for my boat and pull them in the winter and rotate my Battery Tender Plus on each every few weeks. Just passed the 15 year mark on the batteries and each one still holds a long and strong charge.

I always hook up my cars if I know I won't be driving more than a week. I usually replace the batteries in my cars after 7 years (all have lasted that long) as preventative maintenance, but they all had more life in them. I got my money's worth out of buying the Battery Tender brand.
