I especially love it at night, every other light is out but that on a long drive.

One of the main reasons I bought my last C5 is because it's an FRC. Always loved them, but never owned one. I have had several Targas But I found this one , a 99 with only 70k miles and pulled the trigger on it right away. Very happy with it!!

FWIW, if you wear Polarized sunglasses, you really can’t see the HUD. I wear Costa sunglasses, I consider them mandatory in So. Florida. They do cause the HUD to fade to the point is isn’t readable.

Learn to like the Z06 style. It has all that you need including a nice ride. Sport seats from the coupe are better, but heavier. HUD is great.

I agree that HUD is useless during the day, but I do enjoy it during night driving.

There were so few made that it doesn't make sense to hold out for one if everything else he is looking for is right (price, mileage, trans, body style, color).

Isn't it the same worthless PS cooler GM used on the SS/WS6 LS1 that ran thru the coolant hose? I had it fail on a 34k mile WS6, mixing coolant and power steering fluid was fun.

I believe the 03/04 cars couldn't even get Z51 if it came equipped with the upgraded F55 shocks

Thanks for all the responses, some good advice, and well thought out and detailed answers. I still have a lot of learning to do, and want to take a look at a few cars. Maybe I'll get a chance over the holiday weekend.

Lots of good factual info here (except a few on the looks of the Z06 ) however I don't think I read anything about the more rigid package the Z06 provides because the top can't be removed. If you want to jump in and auto x with the most capable car in stock condition the Z is the answer.

In my experience the targa tops tend to creak but that may not be the case for everyone.

It sounds like your decision will be made on wether or not you want to pop that top. Good luck.

You know what I always say...you can make a targa top perform like a Z, but you can't make a Z look like a targa top...but for me, the Vette is more about looks than performance...for many, it may be just the opposite...

I know this is not answering the OP's question but what have you done to your targa top to make it perform like a Z?

All corvettes are red and all true sports cars are convertibles. Love my vert, mine has z51 package so it handles like a z06 but smaller tires. I track mine so I had to put in a roll bar. 3.42 rear standard.
