A couple months back I had a paint correction on my C5 and C6 but only had the ceramic coating done on the C6 due to the fact it is driven more often and gets exposed to the elements more. I can't speak of the longevity of the product yet but holy crap the paint looks 10' deep and is as slick as snot. Super easy to detail and keep clean. A proper paint correction is most definitely needed before you do the coating.

To be fair, many of the products are advertised as silica coatings and the lay market uses ceramic for marketing. In the end, it's still a ceramic, it's refined, with heat.

Not knocking the ceramic coating, just my own experience with Zaino products differs somewhat from yours. The initial application process is quite complicated, but if done right, has the same ability to repel dirt, bugs, and such. I first did claybar, then 5 coats of Z5, then 5 coats of Z2 with the ZFX additive. Alot of work, true, but results were stunning. This was 14 years ago, and I still only redo the Z5/Z2 (one coat)every two years or so.
Similar and the required clean-ups act as a nice refresh and an inspection of the car!
