While "mildly" looking for a low mileage '03/'04 Z06 I've noticed the elevated strip on the side of some. Will these come off without ruining the paint?

You mean the body side molding (or BSM as commonly referred to)? Many take them off with some fishing line, etc. with little to no residue. They don't bother me on or off, so mine are still there. Some can't stand the things.
I removed mine starting with fishing line. Then I used an eraser wheel to remove the remaining tape residue. Works great, I had never heard of an eraser wheel, but they work great and didn't leave any scratches. Cheap on Amazon as well.

Thanks lads. Why I couldn't think of the words body molding yesterday is a mystery so I thank you both for getting my mind right. Two sided tape it would appear.
