Default 2003 body question

Good Evening
Can anybody tell me the significance of the "ridge" (don't know how else to describe it) the side about 1/2 way up the door on 03's? Why do some have it and some don't
Thanks

That was an optional body side molding B84. You can still purchase them from vendors like Mid America and the like. I think new it was either just north or south of $100 and now its like $600.

I will happily remove my BSMs if someone wants to give me the money to respray my door.

When I removed them it was clear someone in the past had resprayed the door without taking them off...

Seems like the body side moldings are either a love it or hate it type of thing on the car. Personally I think they look good but many decide to take them off to get a cleaner look to the side of the car. Either way, the car looks good IMO.

A hairdryer and some strong fishing line will get them off (along with some adhesive remover to clean up the double sided tape residue), but you may have some paint color difference where the BSMs were and in some cases the paint may lift when removing them. The latter usually only happens when the car has been repainted, but that is not always the case.

My '02 Vert has them; I like having them as they help protect the door from door dings.

Mine has them too, and I like them. When looking for My Z, I specifically looked for cars that had them.

Looks are subjective.

I had the same problem. Unfortunately I found out when it was too late...removed the drives side door last and thats where the respray was. I wasn't about to reinstall them all so i left it off and i'm living with it....for now.

Have the BSM on my 02. I want to remove them but I'm thinking it will show some paint fade as the car is (gasp) 16 years old.

As far as I know my car has been a outside car it's entire life. Removed BSM's and didn't see any evidence of fade...did see a drivers side door repaint but no fade.

Realize some don't care for them, but it's always nice to have a little added insurance in the parking lot.

When I was shopping for my Vette, I wouldn't even consider one that didn't have BSM.

To me it adds a look of motion.
The car looks like it is in motion, even when parked.
