This appears to be a fairly tedious and time consuming job.
I'm sure others could gain from your insights, so it'd be great if you could post some notes and photos of your repair.
Best wishes with your work!

Yes, the rocker panel (where your damage is) is glued on by the factory and is a bear to get off in one piece. Plus I do not believe you can buy an OE piece any more (I could be wrong on that though). If you can repair the damaged section with it still on the car, that may be the best way to go.

I had very similar damage on my rocker panel - I was about 4” br 6” of ragged fiberglass. I ended up just repairing it, you can’t see the patch with new paint.

I definitely would have repaired the rocker panel on the car instead of trying to remove it.
This is the complete one piece rocker panel, and is without a doubt one hell of a job to replace! It is indeed glued from the factory and often break apart when being removed. It's not impossible to do yourself, but you have to remove door, both fenders, trim etc!!! So it you have plenty of time, tools and a decent knowledge of how these cars are put together, it can be done. Goodluck!
It would have to be messed up pretty bad not to just to consider a repair. As stated above it's one helluva job to replace.. that's if you can even source the part.
