Default remote keyless entry transmitter

2000 conv. One of my remote transmitters works and the other does not. Installed new battery, still does not work. Resync'ed as per owners manual, no difference. I also see something about matching transmitter to vehicle. I just purchased the car so I have no idea when both transmitters worked. I'm afraid I will mess up the one that works if I start screwing with matching transmitters. Any thoughts on this. Thanks
Jim

Default Right transmitter?

1997 thru 2000 C5 take one transmitter and later ones take another. They look identical. Also, transmitters for1997-2000 are expensive($85-125 on eBay), one for later C5s is cheap($25 for two). Open them up, I’ll bet they are different part numbers. When I bought my 1999 it came with one working transmitters and two that were for the later models. I’m in Florida and my car is in Michigan, so I can’t give you part numbers.

The fob for my 2002 shows GM/Lear 25695955 FCC ID KOBLEAR 1XT CANADA 3521 102 1718. I have another one scavenged from a 2003(I think) Olds Alero showing GM/Lear 25695954 with the other #s being the same, but it works with the Vette. Can't help you with the older #s.

On second thought: Her are the numbers on the fob from our 99 Pontiac Grand Prix: GM 10246215 CANADA 218 101 487 Model/FCC ID ABO0204T. Hope this helps.

I don't have time to do the search now, but if you search this site or Google, you will find numerous threads that address this problem, usually fractured solder joints on the circuit board inside the fob. If you are handy with a small soldering iron and have a magnifier you can fairly easily repair this yourself.
