Good morning guys, found this baby and I have been talking to the guy. Strongly considering buying this beauty. I test drove the car and we agreed on a price lower than the one on the post. Any suggestions or recommendations on what are the pros and cons? I have heard about dropping a valve and a buddy told me his 6th gear gave him issues after 60k miles. I'm mostly looking for a z06 but this car is in excellent shape.

I have been in hunt for a while and strongly considering this one. Although I want to look around for a FRC or a Zo6.

Don't buy what you don't really want, you may regret it.

Thank you guys. I have gone to see 2 but one was owned by a young kid that 4th gear has a slight grind and he races it daily. The other is a rebuilt and pulls to the right so I decided to keep looking. I know I want one but I want to see all my options before making a haste decision. However, I do have to admit that this C5 is very well taken care of. The gears go in great and drives great. Low miles, clean title, runs hard and I didn't see any codes (Wasn't done by me, the owner did it but in front of me). I just don't want to buy it now and then a week from now a zo6 springs up and I will slam my head against the wall..

I loved my 98 Coupe body style but when the ZO6 came out... HOLY CRAP,,,,,,, I had to have one.

If the FRC or ZO6 body style is what you crave,, wait for one to be had. They are out there!

In the mean time,, drive as many FOR SALE C5's as you can find so you will KNOW a good one from a BAD one.

REMEMBER,, A FRC will have the SAME early parts NON AVAILABILITY issues as the early coupes.

The 2001 -2004 cars don't have that big of a problem YET..

There are still some parts for ALL C5s that are NO LONGER OEM or AFTERMARKET OFFERED.

I agree with the others - if a FRC/Z06 is what you really want, wait until you find one that is in great shape and has the options you want and then make a purchase. No sense getting a car and then regretting that you bought it after a short period of time.

And good suggestion to read the stickies in C5 General and C5 Tech. Lots of good information to help you through the purchase.

Agree with the above. I was pretty specific in what I wanted. Took about 2 years of searching to find what I wanted year, options and mileage. I'm in MT and found the car in CA. Don't restrict yourself to your area. Of course I think the search was half the fun!

Looking at the ad it looks like it's in Fl. That's good. There's a ton of Vettes available through out the state. Broaden your search using cargurus, craigslist or any of the other sites. When I was looking I would put in a 500mi. radius which really upped my chances of finding one. But I was ready to go even further if necessary. Eventually I found mine 200mi. from home. But I was pretty particular in what I wanted, and wasn't going to settle for anything less. BE PATIENT.

100%

And while I totally believe and support not waiting (I had a close friend miss out on experiencing his "dream" because he was waiting for the right time... problem was, cancer didn't/doesn't wait), it's important to get what you want if at all possible.

And it sounds like what you really want (a FRC or a Z06) should be attainable in a reasonable amount of time.

So... ramp up your search efforts, and get what you really want ASAP.
