Do yourself a favor and buy some of those door fasteners, enough for both sides. When I took mine off, I found 1/2 were shot, so I replaced them all. Might as well while its a part.

Okay guys, I've decided to replace my front and rear twiddlers on my '02 coupe with the JL set, which are now on order along with the wire adapters. Questions: do the speaker grills pop off and, if they do, can I change out the speakers without removing the door panels or the trim around the rears? The door panels seem pretty easy, but the rear not so much. My record with those white plastic tabs is not great and I'd like to avoid them if possible.
Thanks!
Barney
If you have a coupe then the rear grills pop off. If you have an FRC the rear trim panels around the speaker has to be removed. The trim and grill are glued together. See edit

Reason: Edit: I see you said 02 coupe so the rear speaker grills should pop off.

I have 3.5 and 6.5 Infinity on order - and I had saved this thread about the rear speaker trim. I have an FRC - not sure if there are any differences...

I can't speak to the FRC issue. On my hatchback the rear grilles pop off pretty easily. Having seen the video about "rear trim removal" I opted to pop off the grilles and carefully dremeled out a small notch in the trim just above the top screw on each side so it can be easily removed along with the other three. This avoids all the trim removal voodoo. The notches don't show when the grilles are replaced. Not your Bloomington Gold solution for shure, but hey, it's a driver!

The rear speaker is smaller in the FRC/Z06/Convertible. In these it is a 5.25" speaker. Only the coupes got the 6.5" rear speakers.
The doors are the same on all models.
I did a minor "speaker upgrade" on my '01 coupe, several years back. FWIW, here's what I did.....in front, I replaced the factory "twiddlers" with a pair of Pioneer TS-A878, 3.5", 2-way speakers. Despite what everybody says about the coupe's rear speakers being 6.5", I found them to be what the industry calls "oversize" or "metric sized" speakers that are closer to 6.75" in size. I had a pair of Kenwood KFC-1786C, 3-way speakers sitting on the shelf, and I gave them a try. They fit like a glove.
Since I did this work a while back, I'm pretty sure that the speaker manufacturers may have update their part numbers, but I would say that they probably have something comparable, size wise, in their current catalogs.

I'm not sure if you could make a 6.5" fit in an FRC
My understanding is that the wires to the front 3.5" twiddlers are soldered, so you would have to desolder them and then solder again to the new 2-way coaxial speakers.
Just a word of caution here: Bose does use the same narrow/wide spade terminals in its speakers that other manufacturers use, BUT they don't follow the common standard, so their polarity is REVERSED.
Pay attention to the + and - signs in ALL speakers terminals and, for example, use a red permanent marker to identify the + wire in each speaker before unplugging or desoldering anything. Then make sure your new connections are done keeping the CORRECT polarity.
FWW The front twiddlers on my '02 coupe w/Bose had spade connections, which I hitched straight to my new JL's, same for the rears. Everything sounds great and definitely not out of phase???

I bought a set of door panels on Ebay that came off a 30k-mile car - they look great - and on one panel all the fasteners are intact and on the other all are broken. Also on on that same panel one of the "retainer brackets" that holds the fastener in place is broken - I guess just glue it in place and hope for the best? I also bought some of the female grommets that go in the door just in case

I don't quite understand what you wrote, but again, for the few extra dollars, I replaced them all - even if they looked good, and the bonus was, it solved a rattle that was on my list too.
Do the C2-350X's fit without modification? Crutchfield seems to think otherwise, and suggests that they would be too high to fit under the door grates, and would get a little crushed, for lack of clearance.
GCG i'm glad you chimed in on this post.your advice a couple years ago was very helpful. i had replaced the fronts with jbl gx328 and the rears with the gx628 along with the plug and play harness. if i remember right there was a polarity difference with the Bose and the standard systems on the market. what i did was put the + from the stock wire and installed it on the - on the Gx 328's and the +'s on the factory wire to the - on the 328's and used the plug and play harness for the rear's. those speakers sound very good to me and was a bolt on and go. hope i did this right. my last question is i was thinking of installing a jvc kwr950bts dd along with the axxess axi 2004 harness and would i have to reverse the polarity back to factory for this jvc system? I have no intentions of hi-jacking this post as your advice is very good for the novice. thanks again. Denny
