Default TPMS Sensor

Getting ready for new tires on the coupe I purchased last year. I have checked with the tire installers and they will install the sensors and program for no charge since the tires will be installed. What brand or part number would be recommend. Thanks

If you want the least agrication getting the new TPMS programmed to your car i would use the OEM sensors for your model year.

While aftermarket TPMS will be a little less expensive, getting them programmed to the C5 can be an uphill journey as the aftermarket sensors uses a different programming procedure than do the OEM. Many Forum posts about the complications of getting aftermarket sensors to function on a C5. :yesnod

I got some acdelco tpms from RA and they were 2.5 years old.....RA told me that was ok and normal and it is NOT OK AND NORMAL...get fresh dated tpms...they last for a minimum of 7 years but shelf life is not 7 years then 7 + more years even though the tpms are not activated unless moving...got this info from Schrader technical support...I sent them back and got my tpms from my local Discount Tires shop who matched the lowest internet prices and I got my ZO6 size tires there also and Hunter road force balanced...I highly recommend Discount Tires ...

BTW...my Discount Tire center matched RA price

Get the Schrader brand tpms...they make the tpms for acdelco & gm...the only differences are that the acdelco and gm tpms are black and the Schrader brand tpms is red, otherwise they are the exact same part...and the Schrader brand is cheaper....

Schrader PN 20117 are the TPMS for the 2001 - 2004 C5

you can actually call Schrader and speak with an engineer and he will answer your questions...all Schrader tpms are made in Ireland...pm me if I can help...

My original sensors were still working fine after 12 years and 60K miles. I would not be afraid to buy sensors that have been sitting unactivated on a shelf for 2 and a half years. They last a long time.

I wasn't afraid to buy old sensors I just wanted fresh dated ones if they were available.

Even if unactivated they still deteriorate if sitting for a period of time...

My original GM sensors actually lasted 14 years...my point was that if fresh units were available that's what I would look for and since the Schrader technical engineer gave me the info about shelf life, I searched for and found TPMS that were 3 month old...

Similar to when I bought tires from Costco and noticed the DOT date and they were 3 years old, that the tires were supposed to be good for 7 or so years so..... after me asking them about the dates they gave me new tires that were 4 months old...my old tires were on my vehicle for 11 years before I got new ones and nothing bad happened...
just sayin....

The early tpms were also Schrader, part number 28006. These are expensive from most vendors but I just bought four on EBay for $170.

I don't know if there's a date in those numbers but the box says 3/19/2018:

The date on the box is the date they were shipped...the date of the sensors on yours should be on a corner on the other side...the red side...in a clock circle with an arrow pointing to the month and the year in each side of the line

Update:

Got the Schrader 20117. Replacing all four TMPS and all four tires. Front tires are installed and rear on order. The front TMPS were original and had a Dec 2001 manufacture date assume the rear will be the same when installed. Front tires were 11 years old and rear are 10 years. Hope the new TMPS last that long (oct 2017 manufacture date).
Front TMPS are not working. They may be waiting to program all four TMPS at the same time. I need to check on that.

Once you have all 4 tires and TPMS installed then program all 4.

Then drive for a bit. They should all come online.
