The number for that is on the black intake cover about mid-way along the bottom on the driver's side. Not sure what number you are referring to in the photo.

No, not necessary to remove the intake. It's molded into the black plastic, so with my car in the garage, I used a flashlight and just ran the light along the bottom portion along the length about 2-3 inches above the bottom. It's a few inches off center towards the firewall.

From the documents I had when I bought my 2004, it stated that all Corvettes from 2001 to 2004 have the LS6 intake manifold. The only LS1 specific manifolds are found on 1997 to 2000. My point is, if you find a LS6 intake on your 2001 to 2004 LS1, that's correct and you still have an LS1 not an LS6 motor.
