Default Identifying LS1 vs LS6 Intake/Heads

I am slowly uncovering the secrets of the 1998 C5 I purchased in Oct of 2017. I recently discovered that the car has C6 Z06 shocks and C6 Z51 sway bars.

The engine does have a big cam. But that is all the info the previous owner knew. It was installed by the owner before him and it is an older build. The guy before me had it for 7 years. I'm curious if they upgraded the heads and intake.

Without disassembling everything, are there any visual markings on the heads that would ID them? And where would I look?

Same question for the intake. How do you tell the difference between the LS1/LS6 intake?

Where would that be located, and is that LS1 or 6?

LS6, front corner of passenger side head

LS1, the same spot is just blank.
I think the LS1's head # is on the firewall end of the head.

What is the second braided hose on the left side, coming through the middle if the rail cover?
Mine only has one at the rear (2002 Base Vert, LS1).

BTW - I checked my engine and it is stamped "241".

IIRC, 1 is a fuel line and the other is the return line on the 97-98 vettes

As for the intake manifold: here is what I found from a bit of research.

If the manifold is off the block:
-LS1 intake has a hump on the bottom.
-LS6 intake is flat on the bottom.

If the manifold is installed on the block:
-LS1 intake you can fit your finger between the intake and the block.
-LS6 intake you can NOT fit your finger between the intake and the block.

Part Numbers:
#12561269 or 12560688 (LS1 F-Bodies 1998-00)
This is the LS1 intake found on all LS1 F-Bodies from ’98-’00. It clearly has an EGR provision just behind the air inlet. The bottom of the intake is curved.

#88894095, 12557846, 12556333 (LS1 1997-00 Corvettes)
Here is the part number for the deceptive ’97-’00 LS1 Corvette intake manifold. It does not have EGR, and when installed, looks identical to the LS6 intake. The bottom of the intake is curved.

#88894339, 12573572, 12561184, 88890524, 88890523. 88894339
This part number is for the LS6 manifold found on all LS1-powered ’01 and ’02 Camaros and Firebirds, ’01-’04 Corvettes and Z06s, ’04-’05 CTS-V, and the ’04 GTO.

Let me know if there is anything here that is inaccurate.

"It's got a big cam" without telling you anything else about the engine is not good for your piece of mind or your engine, and without major disassembly, you will have no idea what the PO did or didn't install.

I was told my 2001 vert, had high flow heads, but just looked and its got the 241 stamp, so that means stock heads. Doesnt it?

They could have ported your stock 241 heads, but again, without pulling the heads, you won't know.
