hello
new to forum but this is my 5th corvette and 39th car in general
Bought a beautiful, certified, 04 Z06, with 19,700 miles from BuyaVette, delivered in late January. Class operation all the way. However with warmer weather here in DC I can start using the car daily. Filled the tank and was overwhelmed with gas smell! My tech found one of the fuel tanks has a split seam at the top, causing a leak when full of gas.....New tanks required. Repair will be $2000 +
Question: Do i ask for assistance here? or chalk it up to Let the Buyer Beware?
thanks at

Contact BuyaVette and see if they want you to be a satisfied customer. Or not.
Fix the tanks and enjoy the new ride. BuyaVette has no responsibility or obligation to reimburse for repairs.
No, but they might give him something to make him a happy customer. I have had used car dealers pay for a portion of a repair, even though there was no warranty. He has nothing to lose to contact them.
Buyavette does Corvette service, so maybe they would fix it cheaper.
Thanks to all
I fully understand BuyaVette's position and would be very surprised if the did anything other than politely respond. Perhaps in the spirit of customer satisfaction and future business they will be generous.

That is a possibility. You have nothing to lose. See what they say. A lot of Corvette enthusiasts come here and some positive feedback from them could help their business.

I have an 04 Z and the tanks in the last year and half have been out 5 times ( Don't ask ) I do my own work .. There is No way you can see much or anything on or around these 04 tanks and the TOP HELL no way .. More they likely a cross over tupe leaking and yes the tanks might have to come out to fix .First thing to do is find out were its coming from might be just one side not both .Might need some O-rings might have unlocked and just be lose . Just saying the tech guessed at what was wrong with the tank . Not going to be cheap if you got to pay someone to do it .Just don't like to see people getting ripped off when it come to working on the old C-5 .I know better , he guessed at the problem ..
thanks radar502
tanks were dropped because we saw fuel running down from top.
seals were improperly/poorly installed by someone previously......hmmm
we installed seals correctly, filled tank and .....gas on floor
on close inspection we saw the split in the seam, so no choice
i appreciate the responses a great deal
I am curious about the car being "certified". By who? What did any documents say was certified, what guarantees does certified bring, or is just sale jargon for "we washed and waxed it"?
I had my Cross Over repair on my 04 a few years ago. There was a special warranty 10 year that was given out by GM. Do a search of Cross Over you will find what VIN numbers were included. Mine was with in the VIN numbers but after Special Warranty but was covered by my extended warranty cost would have been 2300.00 back then. Here are a few pic of job that was done by GM. White part with finger is the part that was cracked. Last pic is were you could see gas drops on car driver side just under fuel door.

did you do all of this work yourself?... if so then you can get a used tank for probably $100 or less and swap it in and be on your way... having someone else do it for $2k+ is ludicrous

Good deal ,I through the guy might have guessing .. Yep I had someone do mine and Bam the first time ( Bad pump ) 9 months later the reg. went out blowing my injector O-rings so called the shop said we might try to help you out on the labor ( What) $1600.00 I paid .. No way so did it myself ,drivers side NO O-rings in the cross over . I could have burnt up in the 04 ,the guy said the tech said in installed them .. So I do don my own work now .
Is this only an issue with '04 Z's, or are other years prone to this?
I think < it has been awhile scene I have read up on the fuel deal . The way I remember It's the older ones were the ones leaking ( crossover tubes ) and fix was the new design starting in the 03-04 ,but from what I have seen all can leak .. Its knida rare for one to leak .. My 04 was not leaking I was getting bad pumps after about 3 bad ones and taking the tanks out 5 times yes 5 times I busted all the lines and the crossover tube as well .. Now all fixed .. You think you got problems try doing this 5 times and in the mean time paying someone $1600.00 to fix it and finding they not only did they leave out the Big O-rings but the A/C pump stopped (Regulator went out )blowing out the injector O-rings after 9-mounts and no help from the shop .. Sorry .. New fuel rail injectors and Gm. O-rings new pump all inside tank lines and crossover tube .. At the time I wish I only had a cracked tank .. The cost of Corvette fun .. If I can't fix it ,it will be coffee table .. I live in Houston the shops around here $%^&* and %^&*() hell no .. I'm Ok how .. LOL

If you got it from BuyAVette, they have a warranty on their certified cars (which, with this low mileage and not modded), would qualify. Contact them..
