I just convert my 98 to use the later ones and only paid 7.99 for each key fob. Waiting for my tpms sensor since those are cheaper too
You do need to be aware of the differences (also I believe it's 97-00 and 01-04, as the FOBs correspond to the type of TPMS' used as they go off the same transmitter). If you own a 97-00 you're going to have a fairly difficult time getting a FOB to program & sync. They have a lot of issues that are not very easy to remedy, with most of those issues being rectified with the later style. Considering the relatively high cost of early FOBs and TPMS sensors, it can be comparable to buying the entire setup from the later style and swapping everything out. Also know going to a dealer to have them "program" it will result in them doing the exact same process as above using the DIC. The dealer doesn't have any sort of specialized equipment to sync the FOBs; the technology for that wasn't in C5s when they were new. They would likely experience the same hardships programming a 97-00 FOB that an individual would.
