Default Lubricating the door hinges

What's the best way to do this? I keep shooting silicone spray on them - and besides being messy I don't really think its the right stuff to use...

lithium aerosol grease for squeeks. If you feel it catching the bushing has been damaged and needs to be replaced.

I spray a white lithium grease on them maybe yearly at the most. It does leave a residue but any excess can be wiped off.

While WD-40 is a good penetrant and can drive out moisture it's not ideal for long term lubrication. A shot of WD-40 to clean or drive out moisture should still be followed with a good grease or similar lubricant.

Use some lithium grease for a more long term solution.

Wilson Combat synthetic grease for me. Comes in a syringe, so it's easy to be precise, and the stuff lasts forever, and is silky-smooth.

I got turned on to this to quiet my popping rear hubs. Since then I've been using it on everything that moves, pretty impressive stuff. It works just as good, and may last even longer than lithium grease.

We used to use Wurth lithium grease in the bodyshop I used to work in.

As for WD40, "WD stands for "water displacing" and its main use is as a solvent or rust dissolver. The lubricant-like properties of WD-40 come not from the substance itself, but from dissolving components. And the effect doesn't last."

(not that everything in the internet is right, but I would never use WD40 on door hinges)

mine is popping each time i open or close,, you comment about replacing the bushing sounds like what i need to do to correct my problem. question is how do you just replace this bushing looks like it is a pressed on piece of the hinge itself?

Ya know....back in the day,, and I mean way back,,,before they had all these different detail sprays. .we used to use lemon pledge to detail out paint jobs. Maybe thats why all these sprays each have a different arouma. Bunch of copy cats.

When I had this happening it got so bad that sometimes the passenger side door was hard to close. I had the hinges replaced. Problem solved. I bought the hinges online.

I used AC Delco PTFE grease once a year. Put a newspaper behind the hinges to catch overspray.
