The best way is to remove the pins and immerse the pins in melted candle wax or paraffin. Let the wax harden before pounding them back in. Waxing the interlocking knuckles might also be needed. Remove each plate, one at a time, and dip the knuckle end in melted wax, then drip excess off. Wax will not alter the surrounding woodwork or paint like oil or WD40 will. What's the best way to do this? I keep shooting silicone spray on them - and besides being messy I don't really think its the right stuff to use...
Worth HHS-K is my go to for most items that don't require extreme pressure lubrication. You can read for yourself. A little spendy, $18-$24, but very much "Wurth" it!
