2004 Z06 LeMans. Looking for tire recommendations. Original super car tires are worn out at 15500 miles. Summertime “Sunday car” driving only. Looking for a solid performance tire. Thanks!!
I'm a first time Vette owner and have owned this car for 5 months, Thanks everyone who replied, this has been a big help,
Michelin Super Sports have been superseded by Pilot Sport S4's. Michelin says the S4 is better than the PS2, now the tire you want. Reasonably priced too. When I got my new wheels I bought the S4's too. They are the best tires I have ever owned and I've had a few different tires on my Z06. There is no facet of performance that this tire doesn't exceed my expectations. They even have the best ride of any tire I've used. More than highly recommended. BTW, I've had PS2's, Vredesteins (excellent but not made anymore), Conti Extreme Contacts.
I agree that the Michelins are the best but they are expensive. I, and several others forum members, have purchased the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's. They are considerably cheaper and so far, I have no reason to regret the purchase.
After some heavy duty research and intrepidation, I pulled the trigger and replaced my 8 year old Michelin runflats with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. So far the ride is smoother and quieter. After a 4 wheel alignment the car rides on rails.

This thread is talking specifically about Z06’s. With that said, Pilot Sport A/S 3+ can be put on the Z06 in sizes 255/40-17 and 285/35-18, but very few have. They’re cheaper than the PS2, last longer and have the ability to drive all year. After i burn through my set of PS2’s with track days i’ll be putting on the A/S 3+ to give em a shot. If i don’t like them i’ll put the PS2’s back on after i go through them and have the knowledge of which i prefer more.
Firstly, Z06’s came with non runflats and should be maintained that way. I’m no fan of runflats.
All of the brands mentioned above are fine, tho’ Michelin seems to be THE tire for quality and performance. I have C5Z size wheels on my coupe. When I got them I insisted on having the 295’s in the rear. Beat combo for me, which I think Striper has too are the Conti DWS06. I put them on my SRT when I had it and they were great, as are these.
The trouble with depending on Tirerack and other websites is their databases are limited to specific statistics, hence they will not tell you you can get a particular tire for the front that is one size smaller. The 265/295 stock Z06 size combo is hard to find, tho’ lately there seems to be a slight improvement.
When I put (like Striper’s) Vredestiens on my Z, I went with 275 in front with no ill effects. Using a website like tiresize.com
really helps in the comparisons. Btw, using Tirerack’s specifications pages are very helpful coupled with the comparison software.
