I like (and have used on my 01z and 09z in the past) Mobil synthetic filters.
Wix and K&N gold are the go-to for most of us here for our personal cars.
The shop uses AC Delco on all the filters which is a good middle of the road option. For a C5 the AC Delco part number is PF46 or PF46E. The thing is that AC Delco and STP are made in the same plant, identical next to each other aside from the sticker.

I'm also certain your logic is BS and you don't know much about oil.
When did he ever say Mobil was garbage? All he said is that GM chose Mobil over other equivalent brands because of the financial incentives. Nowhere did he say Mobil was garbage, just that it's no better than Castrol, Pennzoil, etc. Should be a pretty easy concept to grasp.

I don't use Mobil1 anymore. It seemed to cause valve-train noise in my LS1, very noticeable. I went to another major brand oil and the noise stopped. That was three years ago. I haven't looked back.

Castrol has made mine noticeably quieter. Since I never start mine below 50 degrees, I use 10W30. That might help with the noise, too.

Actually he did say it!
Check post #8. "Actually Mobil 1 is complete garbage".
Regardless of what oil GM recommends, what Porsche uses, or if Mobile 1 turns to water (frankly, I doubt anyone other than Jesus could turn oil into water); I would like to know what oil the fellow used in in the Corvette that went 773,000 miles before he donated it to the Corvette Museum.

He used a variety of oils. Mobil1 and Castrol to name 2. He also used 10W30.
I have been using Mobil 1 in my 99 Silverado since new. Engine has 150,000 and runs like a top! Engine is clean inside, with no crud inside.
I have used now for several seasons now 5w-50 Mobil 1 in my 68 corvette and again runs great and good oil pressure. Again, just did valve cover gaskets and clean inside.
I had a friend who had a Ford ranger 4.0l with a Paxton SC running 5-6lbs of boost. He would beat the **** out of it. Every stop light a quarter mile run. Always into the boost. He had to replace the oil pan gasket at 75,000 miles, ran Mobil 1 since new. When we dropped the oil pan the engine was completely spotless. Looked like new with little to no wear.
Clean as whistle in the motor.
I have continued to use M1 with no issues-
Mobil1 was one of the first synthetic oils and it is 40 year old technology. Is it the best oil out there? Probably not anymore. More than likely GM made a deal with Mobil to only use their products.
Do you really believe that Mobil 1 is the same oil today as 40 years ago? Gimme a break

No, it's not as good. It is basically the same formula, but they lowered the zinc content and changed it to cut costs. If it was completely different it would be called Mobil2. It's pretty much the same. There is your break.
“Is Mobil 1 really that good” what were you bored Pounder? Starting an oil thread.....why not just ask, why would anyone put chrome wheels on a vette?
it WAS kinda of a joke !!!!! I figured the Dealer might have put some crap oil in it and after we beat on it a while it went south ???? all I know is it clattered every mor'n until I changed it, since it is quiet as can be ??? even with more Garbage oil
