How flexible is the spring loaded center piece supposed to be and how much movement should it make? Mine doesn't move much at all.
The way it's bolted on and braced, I don't see the function of the spring and how it is supposed to work.
As long as we're talking about the air dam, I cut about 1 inch off the bottom of mine with a Dremel. Haven't noticed any difference in how the car drives. Much less scraping on road surfaces. Any input on what these things actually do?
Yes!!! They make air go OVER the car, rather than under it. This reduces LIFT, and in addition, (since it creates a "low pressure area" under the car) it ALSO creates DOWNFORCE, or, in the case of the C5 Corvette, that "downforce" number, just helps offset the bigger UPFORCE number or LIFT resulting from airflow over the top of your car. This is ESPECIALLY helpful at speeds OVER 150mph. SOooo, If you NEVER go over 150mph, then you can probably (safely) remove 1" from you front air dam (altho your engine "may run warmer).BUT if you DO run over 150mph (often), then, well you should probably leave your front air dam alone (and confine your "over 150 events" to RACE tracks).
Here's a good picture showing the correct position. You can see how the two center supports engage the lip on the back of the air dam and you can also see how the mounting tabs on the end of the air dam look when they’re not bent. It’s an easy fix. It may take a couple of test fits but just bend the mounting tabs back into position so the center supports slot into the back of the air dam and the angle of the front of the air dam matches the corner pieces. It’s easier to bend the tabs with it removed but you can also try with it in place. Good luck!
I think unless other pieces in the parts diagram have the same part number as the air dam, they are not included with it. The springs and aluminum brackets have different numbers. That's the way I read it.
If you buy from a part out car, you might get all for one price.

My air dam is such that U can bend it back with my hand so if I hit (and with it lowered it does) it can bend with out too much damage, but a lot of noise. Just me experience.
