Default Vette vs. Porsche

Went wine tasting over the weekend and pulled up to this little German auto. Nice ride but IMHO, the Vette is just badass in comparison.

As an owner of a number of different vettes over the years and also a long term 911 owner I can say I truly love both cars. Also hard to compare them, they are such different animals. Both having great points and bad points. But truth be told, love 'em both!

Looks wise, I'd choose the C5, but I'm thinking the Porsche would be worth more

I thought the corvette and Porsche for the same year were pretty much equals

911s have always tempted me. The 997 Carrera is a sweet ride.

My 9 year old son might actually fit in the back seat, where I have to leave the Zo6 home instead of taking on trips due to only 2 seats.

The Vette looks pretty good by comparison until you look at the interiors.

The "Corvette Mystique" alone will take it.

Never been a Porsche fan. That ugly front on every model, weird shape... look like squished VW bugs (one of the ugliest cars ever made IMO). I'll take the Vette.

This has been going on longer than any other car rivalry. I love them both and I think they are both better cars today because of it. I just sold a 911tt that I Daily drove for the last 7 years was a great car, now I'm looking for another C5 Z06 to drive as a Daily.

Not a rivalry to me. Never had a Corvette before, not a Corvette fanboy... just a car fanatic.

100% agreed...every time I think about purchasing a Porche/BMW or whatever, I think about the best Vette I could get for the same $$...the Vette always wins for me

Run what ya brung. Anything can be made to perform well.

Weight, power, and how that power is applied is all that separates the cars.

I'm still a fan of the RX-7s - which clearly GM designed our C5s after, LOL

To me it's not the same class of sports car.
Vette= American muscle in a sports car package, Affordable with tons of aftermarket support.

They probably still make most of the parts for the Porsche!

hmmm a “Car fanatic” that doesn’t like Porsche and the 911 specifically?

A car has to look good, no? To me, and many, Porsche does not. That doesn't preclude one from being a car fanatic.
It'd be a boring world if we all liked only one same car.

I've liked Porsches for a long time, but never owned one. I do believe that a Porsche is more difficult to modify than a Corvette. Upgrading the Porsche's stereo system, for example, is prohibitively expensive. I suspect Porsche power train upgrades are similarly expensive, and there are few alternatives from which to choose if you did modify one.

I also wonder whether the owner of a Porsche can do much of the routine maintenance (beyond changing the oil and filter). Of course, many Porsche owners may have the scratch to let someone else do it.

A Porsche in stock trim is apparently sufficient for most Porsche owners. That wouldn't do for many Vette owners.

So...while both are sports cars, the different expectations and behaviors of each car's owners are likely substantial.

Just my perceptions.

although I like them both, you cant compare them. a Porsche handles corners like a dream, but lacks the v8 sound.
