I have a '98 Pace Car. The parking brake lever needs replaced. For some reason the lever for the '98 Pace car is a different part than the regular. Since they only produced ~1500 Pace Cars it seems really weird that this is a different part than that for all other C5s.
Does any one know, are the Pace Car Parking Brake levers interchangeable with the others? And, what is the difference between the 2 parts.

I don't know what the difference would be, maybe a different boot or handle... I would contact Marc at vettenuts if you need that specific part, if anyone has it he will
What is the problem you are experiencing? It may be a simple fix.
When you pull the lever up, it doesn't always engage the brake. If I pull it up very slowly, it will sometimes engage the brake. I took it to a Chevy dealer who specializes in vettes and they said I need a new lever.
Does the handle ratchet and stay in position. The reason I ask is I had an issue where my lever wouldn't always engage and the brakes didn't seem to apply. The lever felt detached. After multiple pulls or pushing the lever towards the passenger seat and raising slowly it would catch.
I took the center console off and moved the boot to expose the ratchet mechanism. The grease on there was old and crusty. I cleaned it off and hit it with some graphite (others use grease). The mechanism immediately freed up and my emergency brakes have worked since. It would be worth your time to evaluate the ratchet mechanism. Only costs you some time.

Taken from Part Manual:
Clearly shows Pace Car E-Brake handle having a different part number. But as stated I wonder if it had to do with a different color handle and boot ?
#17 shows 4 listings, 1st, 2nd and 4th have the same part number, the 3rd is the Pace Car Z4Z RPO Code
I also see there the emergency brake show is discontinued?
Yeah you can almost bet on it not being available from the Dealer. I do believe Corvette America and Zip Corvette has them ....Zip part # PB298. $199.99
Corvette America part # 38066. 97-98, $101.99,
99 -04, part # 38067, $255.99....not cheap by any means..
The push button on my parking brake handle broke while I was pushing it in to release the brake cutting my thumb. Does anyone have an inexpensive solution for replacing the button?
Dealer sells a complete handle assembly! $349.00 !
Appreciate any feedback.
Thank you,
I would offer the same suggestion that SG Lou did to the OP and encourage you to contact Marc at Vettenuts. If the button is available as a separate item he would sell you one and probably offer advice on how to install it.
You do not need a new lever. As a previous post mentioned, it is a common problem that the grease in the unit gets old and the assembly needs to be removed, cleaned, regreased and reinstalled. Removing the right seat will make this job much easier, it's easy to take out the seat. I had this same problem in my own car. Works perfectly now and my brake will hold the car. Perfect time to buy and install a custom boot and e-brake handle.

I wouldn't think the internals of the Pace Car e-brake would be any different than the other C5 models. As mentioned, perhaps it is the color of the handle. Do what striper recommends first - that may just be the solution to your problem.

Thank you for the info/part numbers. Now, when I parked the car to fuel up, the e brake wouldn't completely go down to normal position. I pushed the handle down and felt resistance. When I got home I pulled up on the handle and nothing happened. No more "hold". It freely moves. The button does not need to be pushed in to release. What happened?

Thank you for the suggestion, looks like the cable broke last night when I went to set it.

Thank you, there now seems to be another e brake issue.
