I notice Michelin does not recommend EMT tires for 1997 but does for 1998 -2004 Models of the C5. This was confirm with a online chat with Michelin. I am curious what is the issue.
Just for grins, I logged on to the Michelin website's "tire selector". I plugged in 1997, 1998, and 2001 (like I own) Corvettes, and selected "search for tires". This tool did not offer ANY "run flats" for either of those 3 model years, even though it did note that run flat tires were standard for the 2001 model. In all 3 cases, the recommendation was the Pilot A/S +3.
Go figure.... It makes me wonder what the future of the C-5 platform is going to be. One by one, the electrical components are being discontinued, and it appears that going further into the future, even tires, run flats, anyway, will be discontinued....
Looks like Michelin does not offer a run flat (they call their run flat tires Zero Pressure or ZP) in the base sizes for the C5. If you want a run flat you will be relegated to other brands that "currently" still make them in the base C5 size. There are still at least 2 brands I saw that do offer run flats in C5 base sizes. I dumped run flats back in 2008 when I had to replace tires on my 04 and currently I have different wheels in 18" and 19" and I wouldn't go back to a run flat if I was given them free....
I run the Michelin zero pressure tires in the stock sizes on my 1997 and have had no problems what so ever .I bought them so I wouldn't have to deal with the hassle of a flat tire. If you can afford them, I would recommend them.
I think the A/S PS and A/S PS2 have both been replaced by the A/S PS3,
While ago, I had a tough time finding fronts for my 01. At the time I was looking, the PS3 was not out in runflat, and finding a pair of plain PS or PS2s was difficult, at best. (The few places that had it only had 1)
Finally found a pair of PS ZPs at Quicklane...yes, a Ford dealer.
