When I bought my car April 2003, I bought plastic Rhino Ramps to change the oil.
Later on I used some scrap wood to modify the ramps after I found out the car was getting scraped by hitting the ramps while rolling up.
Everytime I use the ramps I'm paranoid they will slide forward or something bad could happen, so maybe it's time to get pucks.
I think I want the metal kind, those seem like they should last a longtime, vs plastic or rubber, I will not leave on car when done with work, put them up.
Is it ok to jack up one side say passenger front and put rhino ramp under that wheel, then do the other side?
Seems like a lot of flexing? On my 1965 C10 pickup I don't worry about things like this, or even my beater grand am, but Corvette seems fragile.
I saw I can buy 4 metal pucks on Amazon for about 60 bucks, but not sure it fits the C5, apparently later models C6 and C7 have bigger slots?
No hockey pucks in my area and the metal ones seem like they will last longer if not forever.
2 might work, but maybe 4 is better.
Who has the metal type and where did you get them?
I bought a set from a forum vendor for 25 bucks or so. They are rubber with an eye bolt through them.
I couldn't see spending a lot for the fancy ones. It just takes a minute to put them in and I can store them in the car in the same box they came in.
I made mine with double hockey pucks with a threaded eye bolt. When I raise my car using these, I have two floor jacks and I raise each side a little at a time, then I put ramps or jacks underneath. (depending on the work I am doing)
Seem like good quality and I was looking for a permanent metal solution rather than the plastic snap in URO type that some threads on this forum have shown to occasionally break or fall off.

I use jacking pucks bought at a BMW dealer. They snap in, can be left in and work very well. Four of them is about $60 or so.
As far as jacking up the car by a single lift point on the side, I do that and have not had any problems. In fact, I do that when using my Rhino Ramps - lift up one side, install the ramp and then lift the other side and slide the ramp under the tire.

if you have an old set of floor mats lay those under the tall end of your ramps and they will not move when you are driving up them... as far as pucks go I have the snap in kind that you leave in place and I use those when it goes on a lift... they have worked fine for me and I leave them in all the time, they are still there and haven't fallen out
The car will not flex no matter where you pick it up.
I ordered 4 hockey pucks online, had them in a few days for maybe $5-6, so long ago I don't remember the exact cost. Drill a hole in the center, pound in a threaded T-nut, screw in a threaded eyebolt, cut off the excess, and you have them. Takes 10-15 min and they work great. Get the parts at Ace, Lowes, Home Depot, any hardware store.

if you want to hit the easy button buy the elite enginering rocker rails ($70) or similar product...and a low profile jack from Harbor Freight ($80). then you jack it up in the middle below the mirror and put the jack stands under the rocker rail....by far the easiet way to do it. 6 minutes and its up in air......these frames dont flex....i can open and shut my doors on the vert while jacked up in the middle. and you can get a set of the rocker rails with the pucks as an integral part.
I use a piece of wood, jack one side and then the other. Works fine and is cheap. I've considered getting the pucks, but so far have better things to spend money on.
Before I installed my Elite Frame Rails I used these. They don't slip like alumininum pucks or crush and distort like hockey pucks.
The C5 has a super strong hydroformed chasis which is not fragile and will not flex. Pucks are used to avoid damage to the body panels that wrap underneath.
I use Race Ramps so that I don't have to deal with slipping Rhino Ramps and for better clearance. Then I jack up the rear from under the cradle just a bit higher than the front. Be sure to use wheel chocks on the front tires before jacking the rear.

I have similar BMW style pucks that I bought first in 2006 for my 99 and swapped them over to my 03 a year ago. My set was less than $60 but that was off eBay in 06. These four pucks have remained on my two C5s for 12 years and many thousands of miles. I use them all the time and like that they are always there. They are light and all but invisible on the car

i bought the hockey pucks....then i made my own cradle supports out of rectuangular steel tubing, (it was a fun welding project in any event)......then bought the elite engineering rocker rails that did not have the puck area support...
had i known at the time what i know now....it would have been one purchase of the rocker rails with the flat pad hockey puck .... you can jack it up it up in the middle and put jack supports any where on the frame on the rail ....and the frame rail with hockey pucks are in mike98silvert photo

At that price, I'd have gotten these instead of the URO ones (which are $6-7 each from Rock Auto). The URO ones have been fine though.
