Dislocated and broke my shoulder over a month ago. Hoping to start PT in a week or so. As a result, my car has been sitting there taunting me. I think between weather and the injury I've driven it maybe 3 times this year so far and it's driving me nuts.
Gun owners know the trigger weight on their guns - how much force it takes to pull and release the trigger. Curious if anyone knows the spring weight on the shifter - how many pounds of force it takes to get from neutral to 1,2, 5, and 6. I got pissed off yesterday and tried to row the gears just sitting in the garage. 1,3, and 4 were tolerable, but 2,5, and 6 felt like they took a million pounds of force to hit. Wondering for a physical therapy goal how much I need back to hit em.

I am not aware of any spring in the C5 shifter. It was my impression any spring action/tension is in the transmission.
There are some aftermarket shifters that have spring tension in them, but, not the OEM shifter.

Interesting - I always assumed it was tension in the shifter, not the trans. Learn somethin new every day. Then I guess to rephrase the question - does anyone know roughly how many lbs of force it takes to move the shifter/trans into 5th and 6th? I'd have thunk (yep, that's a word) that it'd have been something that would differ by shifter/trans and be perhaps adjustable, but I guess not.
If you can't get an answer here, I would suggest going to the archery section at Cabela's, or Bass pro shops, or any sporting goods store that supports archery and purchasing an archery weight scale, then attach the scale to the shifter with some kind of cord and doing some pull tests.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder my friend. I blew mine apart years ago and never took as much care of it as I should and it still bothers me everyday. My advice is to put in the work in PT for sure, good luck.
The stock shifter has no springs, but your right, obviously there's pressure, that comes internally from the gearbox. You can change the amount of pressure by spacing out the detent with a washer. Here's a link on that:
Some aftermarket shifters have centering springs as well. It's my opinion that they shouldn't need them but if your shifter is aftermarket you may have that additional force to deal with.
So I'm not sure how many lbs it is, but one thing I know you can do to make your car shifter better is to buy my shifter box. Haha, what a plug right?... but in all seriousness, read the reviews, you won't regret it.If you have any questions let me know. Good luck with your shoulder, I think you'll be just fine as long as you give it the attention it requires.

Do you sell the modified shifter box outright, or is it on an exchange basis? Also, what is the cost?
EDIT...…...OK, the cost is there, toward the bottom. I missed it. But is it an outright sale, or exchange? Also, will you modified box work with an aftermarket (Hurst) shifter?

Thanks for the replies thus far.Yea - I could go to cabela's and buy a gauge. I was hoping someone may just know. I care..but not enough to go that far lol. Car is 8,000 miles with the only mods being the LCM5 and skip shift delete. Don't want to mess with it - just wanted a goal for arm function to shoot for that was measurable past "feeling it". Thanks for the heads up on the shifter box though. If this one ends up with a sister in a year or 2, it'd be one I'd mod and i'll keep it in mind. But - for an 8k mi (bought it with 6 2 yrs ago) survivor..nope.
