THANKS TO ALL AND I REALLY MEAN IT All other comments are also welcome and I know that it comes down to MY ultimate decision so just hearing others voice their ideas and opinions is very helpful.

I just bought my C5 a little while ago. I took it to the Chevy dealership yesterday to get the oil changed because I didn't have time to do it.

while I was there, a got a good close look at a C7 in the showroom and they are really cool.

If I didnt have one old car undergoing a restoration and one in line to do so, I would probably get one myself, but unfortunately, I am maxed out on toy money with my 14 year old corvette.

If uou can only have one "fun" car, get the C7 and pass the C5 on to a guy like me who will keep loving it.

If you had a 1967 427, 435 hp Tri-Power, would still want a C7?
If you got the C7, would you want the C8 when it comes out?
You have to ask yourself what makes financial sense and in the future, looking back, would you kick yourself for selling a really cool car for the newest product.
Good luck with your decision.

Good questions for the OP I do say.
A 67 doesn't appeal to me as a DD, but neither does a C7. If I had the funds to buy a C7 I'd still either be driving my C5Z, a C6Z, or something else entirely (M3, M4?). A C8... would perhaps be tempting.

If you are able to pay cash and will put a dent in your savings but not deplete it totally or you are still fine financially, why not? I am with you, love my C5 but C7 is definitely my next step, probably skipping the C6. The C7 looks like an incredible car for the money.

Rule of thumb: Max of 35% of income should be spent on transportation costs. If the C7 fits then go for it.

wow that seems really high.....where does housing cost fit in that spectrum? living in the one of the most expensive housing areas in the US really puts a dent in disposable income...I envy you guys with low housing costs.

It is high. That is the most you should spend. If you only make $20K a year, no more than $7K a year should be spent on transportation. If you make $200K a year you can afford to spend $70K a year on cars and car toys. I am closer to 5 to10%.

Virginia has high housing costs? I thought it was cheap to live there.

Try living in the rip-off Chicagoland area. Couldn't be happier with my paid off C5Z!

I live in one of the highest cost counties in Wisconsin. I pay $7K in property taxes for a 60 year old house. If everything wasn't paid for I would be out of here.

That's not too bad for a 3500 SF 4 Bed 4 bath place if in a nice 'hood. Where I grew up (Vancouver BC) that'd buy a 1000SF condo in need of TLC.

maybe the links were goofy...a 3500 SF 4 bed 4 bath in 22207 is $1.2m if its old and 1.6m and up if its newer and that's on a 10,000 sq foot lot....are you saying 1000 sf condo in Vancouver is over 1.2M us$?

Average wages must be really high there. Here only doctors, lawyers and bankers can afford mortgages on million dollar houses. I am sure glad I bought my home thirty years ago.

they are not high and the average schmoe is commuting for over 90 minutes one way to get to work...to be in more reasonable housing prices....the others who cant commute by old small houses 1800 sf houses and with 2 incomes they squeak by.....if you were lucky and you moved around some and made some money on houses over a career including in the high cost of living areas you are ok until you retire then you want to down size.

my oldest daughter an executive asst 30 and her husband a school teacher 35 and grand daughter moved in with us for 3 years to save money to buy a starter home...60 yrs old $625k 6000 sf lot that needed all new plumbing in the house and new bath rooms....and we had to paint everything else and gut the basement.
