When I open the trunk on my 04 vert the lid will only stay open if it’s all the way up. If I lower it a inch or so it will drop closed. Are the supports worn out , or is there a way to adjust them. ?
You could try cleaning shaft and then a light lube.
Actually that is how mine works. Just checked it. Open all the way it stays up. A couple inches down it closes. Might be the way it was designed.

Agree with the others, replace those struts, it is indeed super easy (as in changing a light bulb easy). One of the first things I did after I bought my convertible. Also, if your car like mine, your tonneau cover likely needs new struts too. Like your trunk lid, it should stay up when you open it. I found both sets of struts on Amazon. The tonneau cover strut replacement is a bit more of a challenge but there are very good posts with instructions on how to do that. Finding the strut/ball joint up under the rear fender is the toughest part. I found it easier to feel than to see.

I think mine also holds it own no matter where it is..struts are maybe 3 mos old....biggest difference for me is it pops up now so I can open it easily.
I replaced my trunk & hatch struts when I bought my car. Nothing fixes or cures failing struts other than just replacing them.I bought the Stabilus struts and they worked well!
Actually I have gotten used to mine and I like it. Trunk stays up but takes little effort to close it. Almost closes itself when lowered a couple inches. I would guess that no struts are created equal. Some have different strengths than others. Anyone remember what theirs was like when the car was new?
One thing I failed to mention, and will here is, after I installed the new struts, the trunk lid was higher than the tonneau cover(about an 1/8" higher.
It was even before I installed the struts.
I assumed it was because the new struts were now "holding" the trunk lid where it should be.
It was either the struts on the trunk lid were stiff, or the ones on the tonneau cover were weak.
There is an adjustment you can make on the trunk lid if after you install struts, the lid is higher than the tonneau cover.
On both sides of the lid you will see two bolts either 9/16 or 5/8( Not sure), two on each side.
Loosen one side at a time, and move the lid to where it lines up even with the tonneau cover.
When it's even, raise the trunk lid slowly so as not to disturb it's present location, then tighten the two bolts. .
Repeat for the other side.
