Pretty good article. And yes, the C5 Z06 is still an impressive performer.

The article originally came out in GMHighTechPerformance magazine back in ‘04.

The magazine is long dead and I guess the parent publisher is rehashing it under the SuperChevy banner but back then SC wasn’t cutting edge, it was still covering old school iron in comparison to GMHTP.

Not it that it matters today, but that’s the back story.

Every time I drive my Z06 I feel exactly as the article states. It's a 3000 pound, street legal sharp scalpel, super car. Perfectly balanced, fully controllable with an ideally matched-quick revving power plant, that together with the titanium exhaust sounds and behaves like a true race car. I came from a 6M CTS-V II, which is an unbelievable (for a 4000+ pound) sports sedan, in its own right. But the C5Z is on a much higher level of FUN.

I couldn't agree more. I switched to my C5 from a gen II CTS-V also. It was fast, but it was an automatic sedan... Now the top goes down and there's a proper 3rd pedal on the floor. And it didn't take much to make it as fast. I enjoy everything about the corvette so much more. I think I'll go for a drive.

I came from a V Coupe. Basic mods were pulley, intake, flex fuel sensor and headers. 620 at the wheels and I prefer driving my stock C5 Z06.
