I'm new to posting on the forum here, but have been on here for about a year now doing reading and research in prep for buying a C5. I just picked up my 98 Vette last Tuesday with 61k original miles. I wanted to start a thread for any progress or changes I make to the car. I will also post some pictures of my dads 76 Vette with now 35K original miles that he has had for about 40 years. It has been around my whole life. I also have an 80 Camaro that I've owned for 17 years and has gone through many changes. I have a build thread for that on Pro Touring and NastyZ. Here are some pictures of the cars.
Three beautiful cars!
I love that 76 Corvette. It looks flawless. I had a White 74 Coupe years ago that I bought in 1978 and kept for 24 years and a Black 82 Z28 Camaro..
Congrats on the Bkack 98 Coupe. Looks like miy Black 99 Coupe. You have great taste in cars.
Mike
Thanks guys! A black C5 was just what I was looking for too. I know I have a black 80 Camaro, but I don't care lol. I have an 87 IROC that I am trying to sell currently since the Vette is taking its place.
Nice cars, summer 1996, I bought a 1981 Z28 in Texas and moved to California.
At the time there was a $300.00 "smog impact fee" on top of the normal tax title and license fees.
It was supposed to deter people from bringing cars from other states, that didn't say the car met California requirements on the emissions sticker under the hood.
Also the catalytic converters were gone and it had long tube headers, smog pump was gone, and original CCC Computer Comand Control Quadrajet was gone, so I didn't get it registered.
It was a project car and needed paint and body, interior. Should have taken back to Texas to sell, but had it stored for years, in 2003 got the 1999 convertible Corvette T56, in 2004 making a big move out of state, I sold the Z28 to pick n pull, it had gotten mice living in it and they chewed wires and interior all up and made nests, plus it had hornets or yellow jackets nest in it!
I got the yellow jackets and nest out of car.
Pick N Pull sent me a check for 16 or 17 dollars a couple of weeks after picking up the car!
Would not tell me the price until they had it in yard and it was processed, was in a time crunch to move.
I figured they would give me 150.00 bucks minimum.
I kept my 1965 Chevy short bed custom cab truck though, another fixer upper.
A person can have too many project cars.
The Z28 was yellow and had wheels just like your dad's Corvette, more than one person called it Pontiac, and Trans Am.
Would have loved to gotten around to restoring it.
Always like the 1978-1981 Z28.

Thanks for the welcoming guys! That's a heck of a story 1999corvettels1. Sounds like you tried to hold on to that second gen for as long as you could. Luckly where I'm at in Illinois I don't have to worry about the emissions stuff.

I've read if you have a automatic, and get a 3.42 differential from a C5 with 6 speed manual (base model 6 speeds and Z06 had 3.42-1ratio stock) and also add a high stall torque converter, along with a good tune for transmission, it will make a automatic car even with a stock engine way fun and quick!
The automatic C5 came with 2.73 or a optional performance 3.15 rear gears.
Not sure what a swap to 3.42 and higher stall torque converter would do to MPG though.
Sounds fun!

Thanks guys! I agree with you on the black 1bdvet. I haven't wanted to add up receipts on the Camaro from over the years, but all the work was done by me. Except for the exhaust, lol. I bought that and had the local shop put that on.
