There are difinitely a few that are priced too high with people who aren't really committed to selling. The C5 is usually an extra car so they figure they will wait until the right buyer shows up.
The reality is they are 20 years old and if you pay 10k or if you pay 17k you still are going to have to be prepared to repair it. Especially if you start driving it more than the last owner. Electronics, transmissions, torque tube, ac compressor, rear end etc, may all need repair within a few months of purchase..
Absolutely true, but the lower the miles, the longer the car should be able to go before these things need replacing. If you buy a $10K car, it will eventually end up being a $17K car, so why not pay the extra money up front and get the better car to start with? That's my way of thinking about it anyway...
How true, I cut my losses on my last '99 C5 coupe, a beautiful Black coupe with chrome wagons. I had bought it 4 yrs ago, the car had 223K+ on the clock when bought it for $7500.
Over the next 2 yrs as my "investment" was at 230K miles and almost 12K "invested" ….I questioned my own sanity. So I dumped it quick and got out, obviously selling for considerably less than what I was in it.
Then I found a local used car lot with a fully optioned '99 Pewter convertible, only 56K and a price of $14.5. Well the car was no show queen but still very nice. They gave me the financing I needed and the car came home with me..
So now I spent the dough up front. Well going on 2 yrs later just over 60K on the clock and luckily she's only needed a couple of very minor repairs and a fresh battery since I got the car. Also I am very fortunate to have a local mech shop that treats me and my car very well, I look forward to a long time with my 'vert.

Not gonna Lie...it's freakin' hot, well over 100 today and been that way for awhile, lots of haze from the CA fires..gets cooler end of Oct, Happy Halloween.
Anyway
Welcome to BC it's the best kept secret in Vegas, A real tiny town Mayberry vibe, no gambling etc.. Lot's of Rod's and Bikes..Car shows too.I play a Jazz Brunch deal every Sunday 9-noon at a local spot. (Chilly-Jillys) There's a few 'Vettes in town but mostly you see them driving through from Vegas to Hoover Dam.
Boulder City bypass (Hwy 11) will open completely at end of Dec (from what I hear)..They opened a short connection stretch yesterday, this has not affected thru traffic yet. Once the whole Hwy is open the difference should be huge. Right now at certain times the Nevada Hwy thru town is gridlock.
...And, if you are not going to drive it that much, why bother to have a car like the C5, which was designed to be driven .... Might as well have a Prius otherwise..
All cars are deigned to be driven.
I split that 10k average between 3 vehicles.
I have 119k on my ‘01. For14 years, it was my DD/only car. My daily commute is only about 5 miles one way, with 4 left turns, 5 traffic lights, 2x 4 way stops, a security gate, and a school zone. Or two school zones and a couple more lights if I I take the “long way” which is 6 miles instead of 5. Because of that, the average speed on any given tank of gas is 22mph.
Don’t have to shif out of 1st unless I want to .... There’s a waste of 5 gears.
Still have the same job, and have not moved. When I bought my C7, dealer insulted me on trade (offered 5k), so I kept the C5.
Guess I should have bought a bicycle, not a C7.
Would be a lot better for my physical health (and my bank accounts) But a bicycle is nowhere near as enjoyable as either the 5 of the 7. Regardless of how I drive them, I enjoy them, and that’s why I “bother” to have them...

I quoted you earlier in this thread, but it got buried. I just rented a shop in BC and am moving there next week. Did all this sight unseen..just said F it. Moving from ATL
so Lou...if I block you can I still see what you post?: or for that matter, if anyone were to block me, could they still see my posts? just curious.....

Good question Buddy. I was wondering the same thing. If ya don't see idiotic replies from certain individuals you won't have to get annoyed and have to try and correct their stupidity.
That depends on your point of view. Many people find the looks of the Z not as appealing as a coupe, myself included. I was willing to give up the horsepower and other things included in the Z06 package because I think that body style is an excersize in bad styling judgement.
plus we can fit a bicycle and some bags under the hatch!

It sounded like fake news to me....I'm blocking you but I'm still responding to you?
BTW...I wish C5 prices WERE going up....but they are taking a nose dive for the most part...
Just buy one and enjoy the stupid thing before you’re underground. Until you even own one I can’t see how quickly you can form opinion on what’s right, wrong, best or worth value.
It has to be like 4yrs now going on with this. Yeah, corvettes cost more in the summer. Who would’ve guessed it. Oh coupe prices seem too high? Guess too many people want tops off, more storage or an auto option.
They could all be 10k and you’ll cry that they should be 8k.
**** or get off the pot man. They are no longer long term financial investments but investments towards happiness. I paid pretty good money for mine and I’d say my years of enjoyment over you crying without one were well worth any ‘loss’ - which only happens IF you sell it. Enjoy it for what it’s worth to you.
I missed the higher price tag boat by not selling mine while values were still peak. It just wasn’t worth it to me to sell - at multiple 20k plus offers for my implied ‘worthless coupe’. I’d still want near 20 for it today. Rarely do I regret it. I can’t buy anything for the money that does the same things, looks as good or has the potential, aside from maybe being more depreciation proof. Yet whenever it surprises me in excelling past what another option couldn’t, I know I made the right choice.

Its a lousy car is a thou or two really going to impact your life either way?
Investment vettes stopped around the late 60s/70 . These are late model toys, they will get cheaper for many yrs to come which is a good thing!

Exactly why I prefer the coupe. Happy with the looks, but there's also a surprising amount of easily accessible storage under the coupe glass. I park up a few miles from a local airshow each year, open the glass and pull out a full large frame mountain bike with back pack, drinks and lunch then cycle to the flight line for the best view of the airfield. I've even picked up a friend at the airport with two large suitcases, no problem. The only thing that does give me pause for thought is there is no protection if you stop very suddenly - the whole kit and caboodle will be in the cockpit.

totally....some people like to whine and bitch endlessly and never end up even owning a Vette...

Some like to procrastinate or maybe they are waiting for one to fall into their lap for next to nothing.
I was gonna wait until I retired, which I did July the 2nd this year ,at the ripe old age of 58 and buy a brand new one as a retirement present to myself, but instead I got one in Dec.2010.
